I don’t think it’s wealth they’re obsessed with but status in the DC area. Wealth is one way to gain it, but you can also gain it through a prominent position. Makes sense because it’s the capitol.

Less stress, don’t have to work a 9-6 job that you hate, don’t have to worry about your car breaking down and not being able to afford to fix it, can take care of your health, teeth, take time off to go to doctor’s appointments, get enough sleep, take time off to spend with aging or sick family members. I can think of a million reasons, OP.
