sounds like a fair price. lower than mine, but we basically have 3 new cars, two of them luxury. Our two teenage boys cost us an extra $3500. All of us have spotless driving records.

where do you live? maybe in a poor area? In my community it’s almost universal that the teens get their own car nearly immediately. what really shocks me is how many luxury cars teens here get. My son has a new car but it’s a Korean car. So many nice cars in the student parking lot at school. Jeeps, teslas, and expensive trucks. I can’t think of a single one of my kids friends who doesn’t have a car. Not 1.

I ran into a similar problem with Geico when I tried to add my 17 year old daughter. They wanted to charge an additional $1,600. When I got a quote from Progressive, it was only $800 more. Definitely worth calling around.

FWIW, our FICO score is 808, so for the PP mentioning that, it is not an issue.

Wow, get a grip. You sound really out of touch. Only the wealthiest families--which must be your community--can afford to give their teens expensive cars to drive.

I think I paid close to $1500 for insurance as a 17 year old in the mid 90’s. Sounds reasonable.

This is what we did and it was a much more modest increase when our son got his drivers license. About +$650. Doesn't have his own car.

I was surprised because we'd heard from friends how our rates would go through the roof, but it hasn't been as bad as we expected. If you have a 3rd car, it's a different story.
