was just quoted almost $2000 to add new driver to Geico insurance

Is it worthy calling around to try and get another estimate, or is it all the same?

Do you have a low FICO score? Geico doesn't want to keep customers with bad credit.
Anonymous
Well yes, that is how much most new drivers cost. Is this for a teenager?

How old is the new driver and how new are the cars?

teenager and/or first time driver is my guess. call around but it's not going to be very different. they may give you a lower rate to lock you in but it will go up soon enough.

I'll say this about Geico. They were extremely good when 17 year old DC got into an accident while driving my car. Think of the dashcam videos of cars backing up into other cars to induce a crash and get an insurance payment. Similar scenario, but no dashcam. They litigated this thing, paid for repairs, and everything worked out fine. It took a couple of years. The other driver was a violent criminal with a long history and is presently in prison for unrelated gun, drug and manslaughter charges. But Geico was really good and on top of things. So the premium was worth it to us.

Gosh that must have been frightening for your kid!

Check to see if GEICO offers a good student discount. We use a AMICA and we get shave on our insurance for good students. We have to submit their grades to get it.

+1

And it will be even higher if the teen has "their own vehicle". Teens cost a lot to insure.

Is this monthly? Annually? What?

- Mom to twin fifteen year old boys

Yep, it's rough.

Try Progressive. To be honest Progressive and Geico were only two places to even give a decent quote on my teen driver.

NJM and Erie might quote.

the rest were really high

NP do you have to add your child as driver when they have their permit?
