Are you actually stupid enough to believe these donors aren’t getting paid back and then some with special favors?

So, you'd say the same about any donor to any presidential project? Do you hear yourself?

DP. Is there a precedent for this? What’s another example of a renovation to the White House funded by private donors?

Someone stupid said this to me yesterday....ummm no other president has made renovations to a house that is not his. It's the people's house that he is allowed to live in during his term not after. This is not legal why are allowing this-it's insane and listening to MAGA defend it is even more insane.

So what if it's private funds? Why do we need a ballroom? Why not use those private funds to actually help people?

And it isn't legal.

Certainly any donor to a president who openly accepts bribes

Why don’t they donate to something that actually improves society rather than finance a new billionaire party space where they can all shout in unison on opening night, “Let them eat cake!”

This....MAGA morons are living in little trailers eating canned meat and Trump and the billionaires are taking money from Americans services and dancing in their big ballroom. Wake up morons-this is why he loves the uneducated.

Poor MAGA actually thinks they'll be invited to use this ballroom. 😂

He's probably going to rent it out for events just like Mar-a-Lago. Maybe he'll turn the WH into a private club or casino.

And what's more, using private funds to complete White House projects is legalized bribery. It's no better than allowing millions to be donated to an inaugural committee or a presidential library. While this applies to all presidents Trump does this way more than anybody else has.

So, I agree it’s distasteful but at the same time, the way all Presidents since Obama have entertained is by setting up a giant tent on the south lawn. It’s ridiculous and creates a lot of headaches for the staff. Having an entertaining space attached to the house would be more convenient. Or they can just limit their guest list to under 200 and use the current entertaining space. The tent is ridiculous.

Sure. But the White House is obviously of historical significance. And Trump is an 80's era megalomanic who never grew up. He will turn everything into a set from Dynasty. The Oval Office is absurd today with all the gold inlay glued to the walls - like he's the emperor of Uzbekistan instead of the President of the United States. But that can be fixed quickly. Replacing the East Wing with some football field sized golden ballroom is something different. It's trashy. And it changes the character of the White House. No president should be able to do that on a whim.

But I also believe no president is legally allowed to impose tariffs on a whim or attack other countries. But here we are.

“Serious question: how old are you people?? Regardless, don't you know even a little bit of history? Jackie Kennedy's renovation of the entire WH, paid for with private funds? JFC.”

DP but I knew that. The difference is that Jackie set up a separate arts council and ran it to sever the renovation from President Kennedy. We all know the big donors to Trumps Folly will expect special favors.

The White House is a historic gem and alterations should go through endless review. It’s not his home to ruin.
