Thank you. I feel so badly for his wife and kids who miss him terribly and are very scared.

Maybe they should self deport.

May you have the life you deserve, PP.

According to federal law, it should.

I don’t understand how republicans can be okay with the billions of taxpayer money being spent on detaining these people in for-profit detention centers.
A deal at twice the price.

You would rather spend tens of billions of taxpayer money on for-profit support centers for illegal immigrants.

He is most likely being detained, not imprisoned.

People wanted due process, this is what that looks like.

Pressure his members of Congress to speak out and make a scene. Tell the story to everyone you know. We change this when hearts and minds are on our side. We need to humanize immigrants because that’s really all MAGA has for boogie men. Trans people are too few and sadly Dems are willing to throw them under the bus.

We have so many people who are working to come to the US the legal way. They are doing the paperwork and paying the fees and waiting.

It angers me that people who come illegally are jumping the line. We should not be rewarding them.

I’m curious. Decades of Europeans took boats, coughed a few times, were admitted as citizens, and some were even given acres upon acres of stolen land. Now the descendants of those same people are all about “not rewarding “ people who have already complied with more rules than any of the early 20th century immigrants ever had to do. Pulling up the ladder behind you is the American way?

Because the new immigrants are brown.

He has also followed all immigration steps in hopes of receiving his green card. His kids are U.S. citizens. This is really hard.

This is the part that so many don't understand. So many people think that if you marry a US citizen, you automatically get a green card. That's not true and not how it works. That process can still take years. And becoming a naturalized citizen can take even longer. I know someone who has been working toward that for 7 years now.

Isn’t 7 years normal for the first step? You shouldn’t be able to walk up to a window and just get citizenship. My cousin went through this several years ago. The problem I see is more tracking the status of folks and lack of vetting and follow through on check ins.

Of course, but it’s only because you are a loser that can only feel good by stepping on the people below them. Mediocre people doing mediocre people things.

My ancestors had to prove they could live here without government support. Do we still do that?

Yes, of course we need to enforce current immigration laws in a humanely compassionate way but most importantly we need immigration law reform measures that make it easier for citizens of other countries to come here to work LEGALLY! Clinton, Obama, and Bush all called on Congress to produce legislation for this very purpose but of course Congress failed to act and then Trump and Biden came along and made the issue much worse than it ever had to be.

Yes. Immigrants to the United States are generally required to demonstrate that they are not likely to become a "public charge"—meaning they can live in the U.S. without relying on government assistance programs. This requirement has been part of U.S. immigration law since the 19th century.

For people trying to come here legally, yes.
Those that enter illegally - or did during Joe Biden's term - were not required to offer this proof. In fact, not much was required of them at all.
