Love Knoxville. My favorite three schools for vibe in the SEC would be UT Austin, UF and Knoxville.

Why?

Because I like them more?

We visited Knoxville/UTK. Could not get out of town fast enough. Yuck.

That's a sad story. Hopefully, the rest of your trip was better.

Are you purposefully being unhelpful? Just saying you liked certain colleges without details doesn’t help.

A&M is the by far the richest of all of the schools with Texas. It is not even close. You can add all of the other endowments together and still A&M’s would be bigger….guess where part of that money goes….have you seen their professors at most departments and their backgrounds?

A&M is not on the same level as Florida and Georgia. No way.

Ok then. If you say so….why don’t you go look for actual data instead of spilling BS here. Compare Research productivity and output, professor CVs etc. Even if you look at rankings, you will not see any meaningful difference here. Besides you cant stop a train. And that train has an endowment that is more than $20BILLION higher than UFs and UGA combined!!!! Just look at the trajectory…..By the time your kid graduates, A&M will be ranked ahead of both UF and UGA. That kind of money UF and UGA can only dream off, will buy a lot of things…..better labs, better buildings, better professors which in turn creates more research output and more money and better students and better professors….

In the long run, UGA and UF just cant compete with the level of investment being done by A&M.

Sorry your kid didn't get into Texas, UF, or UTK.

A&M is a great school - but HUGE. I mean you could eat off the floor it's so well-kept, but enrollment is nearly 80K. It's just become giant.

Huge school spirit, but deep military roots. I mean the mascot is "Miss Reveille" for goodness sakes (she's adorable, btw) and is cared for by a sophomore in the Corps of Cadets.

The Texas 10 percent rule (6% for UT) makes OOS tough, whether for UT Austin or A&M. I've heard that if you don't make that 10 (or 6)% cut, it's iffy if you even get in as an in-state applicant.

Vanderbilt is the most popular at our school. Surprised by the number attending - 8 by my count.

Vanderbilt is the most appealing to my DS, but it is almost impossible to get admitted out of high school. We know several kids that transferred in after one year at another school.
