Agree. It seems like there are persistent problems with violence, drugs, and vandalism at both Glasgow and West Potomac.

Why isn’t the school board / Superintendent Reid doing anything about this?

NP. For the same reason they aren't doing anything about it at other FCPS schools and other schools in the country where this is also happening. The pendulum needs to swing back and knock PBIS, RJ, and LRE off the stage.

Our FCPS middle school had a promotion ceremony about an hour long. It was nice but short. They gave out about 10 awards and everyone walked across the stage. I thought it was a good length and the right amount of emphasis. There was also one for the National Junior Honor Society. I really don't know why each school has so much autonomy from school to school. Our region has other issues than this where they go their own way or do less than other schools and it's also annoying.

Were the 10:30 am PTA meetings at Glasgow? If they were at a different school, your wife’s experience is irrelevant.

OP didn’t say he was a working dad; he listed being a dad AND working as reasons he couldn’t join the PTA. Being a dad doesn’t preclude him from membership or involvement. Being employed doesn’t preclude most people. Most PTAs are made up of working parents — which is most parents.

Glasgow pta meetings are in the evenings.

My eight grader in fcps had a promotion ceremony- the broke it up over two days (four sessions total). Now I really appreciate our admins given that other schools did not. I can tell it required a lot of work and coordination.

Was this Kilmer? I went to it and commented to family after that it should have just been an awards ceremony for those receiving awards. No, my kid did not receive an award. It was a lot of coordination for the admin but it’s not a graduation and this is only two years. It was awkward to have it during the day when the rest of the school is in session. They have mixed team classes so it’s not like everyone was at it at the same time. I got the impression it was a quick ceremony to make the parents happy that really wanted something. It was very quick. My kid’s was at 8am.

That was a thought. 1. Dad's can be in the PTA. 2. Everyone on our PTA works. I was the president with a 50 hr a week FT job.

Shocked there are any involved Glasgow parents; very disengaged parents who couldn’t be reached during the day - not even for an emergency call. Lots of voicemail not set up, no emergency contacts listed, vm full.
