I’ve not once heard of this as a trend in the 2,000s. Which we are still in.

use your context clues. In this context PP is referring to the decade time period. Like 90s or 80s, 2000’s ) does in-fact mean 2000-2009.

When referring to 2000-2099 it would probably be called the 21st century

The poster should have said early 2000s then.

Yes so many smooth chests, which ws not a thing back in the day.

The young women think hairy chests, backs, even legs and arms, are gross. My brother who is straight but works as a stand-in for film and tv, says he needs to shave his chest, legs and arms.

My high school friend in the late 90’s was an elite level biker and aspired to be in the Tour de France. He shaved his legs for speed purposes. All his friends loved it.

OP here. A few things:
1) my son's not an athlete, so I guess that's not why he's shaving his legs
2) not sure how this is relevant but yes he is gay
3) I'm not worried about this, just trying to understand it better

Young women have always thought that, especially if they are bi-leaning I've noticed. But most like a hairy chest by the time they are out of their teens. Hairy neck or big beards, ummmmm no.

Always been that way. More of an age and maturity thing really.

IDK but I hear from my teenagers that shaving body is more common among boys these days. Armpits and sometimes legs.

Seems just a few years ago all young boys were talking about "metrosexual" and stuff. Don't hear that word much anymore, but guess it's still a thing to be over-groomed?

Ugh, OP. Come ON.

Easy explanation: gay men are on average more detail oriented when it comes to their appearance.

It’s really not a big deal though. My 17 year old straight son and many of his friends also do this, but they are swimmers/cyclists/into body building or all of the above. It doesn’t make them girly. I have nothing to say about it and never have.

That was my first guess, although if that was it I find it hard to believe she wouldn’t know why.

I guess I could have clarified late 90s, early 2000s.

I recall it because I attended summer camp with kids from another state and all the boys from there shaved their legs. I remember it being a thing all 3 summers I went in high school. The boys where I grew up in Virginia did not. I truly can't remember where these kids were from, I want to say Louisiana.

I think WWE wrestling was very popular around that time and all the wrestlers shave their body hair. Do you think the boys were into WWE?
