“Food Baby” and maintaining figure in bathing suit?

Are you a celebrity being scrutinized? Who exactly is going to think "That mom over there doesn't have a perfectly flat stomach." NO one is looking at you! But by all means, do a liquid fast on your Caribbean vacation and forgo the delicious food.
I brought a tummy control one piece to Punta Cana on a girl's trip but when I saw the rest of my group, with bodies not as good as mine, in bikinis I said to hell with it. The world can see my imperfect stomach.

This happens to me too and on vacation with my family I'm just not gonna worry about it. Nobody is looking at me or you or any other random 40yo mom at the pool.

It happens every day at home, but I don't care. When I'm on vacation and need to be in a bathing suit, I do have to watch what I consume. There is no magic bullet. Even water makes me look bloated. I was told by a plastic surgeon it's because my rectus abdominus muscles did not re-join after my pregnancy and it will always just be like this unless I surgically repair the diastasis.

If you look 8 months pregnant after a meal, the issue is not the meal or your diastasis.

I too suffered from this and still do sometimes. Although I don't have kids so it's not related to pregnancy. It was most prevalent and debilitating when I was very restrictive with my diet (1200 to 1600). Now that I've stopped dieting so hard (more intuitive eating, probably eating 1800 to 2000 calories), it's gone away. It could be related to the stress (of dieting or extra vacation stress), or that I ate a lot of fake fiber foods (think fiber one snacks). Nowadays it only shows up when I PMS.

NP here. It's not just this problem. It also feels awful, like you're carrying 5 lbs on your stomach that you have to lug around all day.

If it bothered me I would wear one of those swimsuits with the built-in Spanx. I would not fast on my vacation.
The only way I could see this bothering me is if I was, again, on a girl's trip and all the other women looked better than me. With my husband and kids, never.

That's a medical issue.

I get this on vacation, but it is because my GI motility gets completely messed up. Of course I am self conscious about how it looks, but the real issueis how rotten I feel - it’s like there is a large hard ball in my belly.

(I’ve tried and still do try a regimen of probiotics, gentle laxatives, etc but I still get the problem when I travel. Some of it is due to stress, to cabib air pressure, to inability to stick to my usual foods, etc.)

A swimsuit with built in spanx would not only emphasize the physical look of the bloating, but it would also be extremely uncomfortable because you're pushing all of that bloat into your organs.

To the poster that is calling this a medical problem, anything related to your body is medical.

Yup. This is also an issue for me when I get the bloat.

This thread is sooooooooo upsetting.

OP, I hope you can enjoy your vacation and relax a bit. No one is looking at your belly.

This sounds like a medical issue OP. I'm 54 and have no such bloating, and I've had three children (obviously all adults now.) Good luck.

"Tiny portions? Stick to liquids only?"

The fact you are considering doing this just to look better in a bathing suit instead of eating normally and enjoying your vacation is indeed and indicator that you have ED issues.

OR that OP like many others is prone to uncomfortable bloat and constipation when traveling

If you carry 5 extra pounds after a meal that meal is way too big. Or salty. Or you have heart failure. A pint of water weighs a pound. I can gain 2 or 3 pounds after salty restaurant food but it's distributed.
