| I’m a perpetual victim of the “food baby” belly after a regular meal. We are soon headed on a Caribbean vacation and I’ll be in a bathing suit for most of the trip, swimming until dinner. I don’t typically eat a lot for breakfast and lunch, but my family goes ham while on vacation: big lunches and even bigger breakfasts. At the risk of sounding like I have ED, which I don’t, what advice do you have for sitting down to these meals with them, but not eating so much food that you immediately wear the proof on your gut? Tiny portions? Stick to liquids only? |
| It’s probably the carbs. |
| If you can see a difference in your belly after one meal you are likely super thin. So don’t worry about it . |
| Hide in your room the entire week. |
| Not much to offer in terms of advice but I am in the same boat. I'm petite and skinny with a relatively flat tummy but my waistline expands about 3-4 inches after having a "normal" meal that it looks pretty obvious on my frame. What I have observed is that carbs, carbonated drinks, and certain alcoholic drinks like beer make the situation even worse so you might want to minimize those. |
Why don't you just eat whatever you normally eat, or eat whatever you want, just not a ton of it? There's no secret here. |

Wear a coverup.
-food baby sufferer. |
| For me, it's dairy. |
| Restricting your meals in vacation to avoid some slight bloat that strangers almost certainly won't notice (and definitely won't care about) is ridiculous. |

Don't worry about it as a lot of this is going to be out of your control. The last time I went to the Caribbean I did nothing unusual and my body was sooo bloated and looked so bloated in my pictures. I still have no idea why! The humidity? Heat? Water retention? I felt way better after coming home.
You can just pack a very flowy oversize button up shirt or dress to layer on top of your swimsuit when you're not in the ocean or pool. And a big hat and sunglasses to make your body look smaller
Honestly you should enjoy the family time, and the heightened sense of tropical fruits and drinks, and having an appetite from swimming and being outdoors all day. Your body shape should be the least of your worries. Take a long walk in the morning or after meals helps too. |
| Wear a pregnancy swimsuit. |
Sorry lady, but if you're actually considering consuming only liquid meals while on vacation so that you look slightly better in a bathing suit for a few hours a day, you do in fact have an ED or significant body image/dysmorphia issues. |
| It's vacation, and you're with your family. Who are you trying to impress? You're not a fashion model or celebrity. Exactly zero people other than you care about the slight puffiness of your stomach. |
| Panacea- a month before the trip start small amounts of Metamucil. Stick to smoothies and no dairy the week before during and after. No raw veggies either. Good luck. |
| That is a disgusting term. |
