Im a republican and will watch Maddow. I might only agree with 2% of her takes, but she is interesting and witty, and we all enjoy watching low-key nutty commentators (I'd put Maddow in the same category as say, Candace Owens-- a polemic who veers into unhinged, yet I come back for more).

Psaki is just a DC striver, which is to say that she's too inhibited to say nutty or unhinged thing, too disciplined to show any messy emotions. It's like watching some Chief of Staff at State or DoD lead a meeting. No appeal.

Unfortunately attractiveness is still number one on the list for all but a handful of female journalists. You can get away with not being cute if you are extremely interesting or have a British accent (Maddow, Amanpour). Otherwise every network woman has to be pretty and the type of woman that men want to sleep with. The only exception I can think of was Katie Couric who was never beautiful or sexy but had perky cheerleader energy.

And I'll add that this attitude toward female broadcasters starts in journalism school. I have a journalism degree and the broadcast course included a consultation at a very prestigious salon with makeup and styling tips to help the students look good on camera.
