There is a video break down of Trump at this meeting. The video shows Trumps hateful response to the president who is black. Then when agricultural minister(who is white) speaks, Trump listens and responds respectfully.

When the white South Africa golfers speak Trump sitting on the edge of his seat and becomes very friendly.

Boomers have no media literacy. They grew up trusting media and government. It is beyond their comprehension to conceive of otherwise.

I disagree. It's definitely a generational issue. Millennials and Gen X were taught: pix or it didn't happen/show me the receipts. We believe nothing without proof to back it up.

Gen Z is the cap/no cap generation but they are the first generation to be raised fully on social media, which is fake. They trust just as easily as Boomers.

My Boomer parents believe everything they see on Facebook. They have the "well, why would someone lie about that" attitude about information. Our local library had an internet safety and social media literacy class for seniors that I encouraged them to attend. I was their driver and hung out in the library while the class was going on. The first thing the teacher did was walk in holding a sign that said "Free $100 to the first person who shakes my hand!" and when no one did it, she asked, why not and they all responded with "if it's too good to be true, it probably is." So then she flipped the sign over and it was a Facebook post that said "I'm sending $100 to the first 10 people who Like this post!" and proceeded to explain to them that it was the same concept. If it was too good to be true, it probably was. She also taught them to Google before reposting photos with political or social claims. These Boomers had never thought to stop before reposting and quickly Google "are dogs and cats being eaten in Ohio?" There was also a section on spotting AI-generated images, but sadly, that was the least understood concept in the class. They were all failing and falling for AI-generated content over and over during that portion.

I bolded part of your response because Google lies to people and AI definitely lies. Googling is hardly reliable, though I suppose it is slightly better than blind trust. Google only give the illusion it is factual.

Why are people so quick to dismiss this? Africa has a long history of racial tension, and intra-racial ethnic tension. South Africa is perhaps the most famous example, and it's not exactly a secret that the black and white South Africans have beef. I once worked overseas with white South Africans, and they were all working to get UK citizenship due to government persecution (and many of them were successful).

There's a long history of race-based attacks on African farmers, not just in SA but also in Zimbabwe and other countries. So this all fits the fact pattern. Add onto it that our own state department acknowledges that reports of government violence are credible. Trying to understand the world around you is a civic duty. Its not some big kowtow to Trump. You can deal in facts, and if they happen to suit Trump that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm white, was born in the Deep South in the 60s, and I spent time in South Africa in the early 90s. I was *appalled* at how the whites--in particular, the Afrikaners--treated the blacks. I hadn't thought there was any developed place that socially and economically segregated left on earth.

That's why I have zero sympathy for the idea that Afrikaners are refugee. The whites were the repressive government just a few short decades ago.

Why did you ignore Retief Goosen, in the White House as part of President Ramaphosa's delegation no less, talking about his dad's farmer friends getting killed, his mom being attacked in her house, and people trying to burn down their farm?

I have known a number of South Africans who are white, and most of them told me they are trying to get friends and family out of SA.

I also knew a family who escaped Zimbabwe after their family farm was attacked and confiscated; the government condoned it and the family lost everything.

Things are not OK in South Africa, as much as many in the U.S. and EU want to pretend otherwise.
