Traveling to/from the US with dual citizenship under Trump

This thread was clearly started by a troll trying to get people sacred and fear mongering re having dual citizenship and it has jumped the shark exactly like that other thread on a similar topic a few weeks ago.

OP says they have dual citizenship with an EU Western European country (probably France, Germany, Italy, Spain). We also have dual citizenship with one of those countries as do apparently many other posters on this and the previous thread and ALL of us already know to travel on 2 passports. We’ve been doing it, we are doing it and will continue to do it. So for OP to suddenly not know what to do, and ask if it will trigger something seems insincere and fake. Then you pepper in all the “scammy” and discussions of visas (which have zero to do with passports), the U.K. (also zero to do with the EU), people being deported who are not citizens, this thread seems like bait to get a political discussion going. It absolutely belongs in the political forum.

Oh brother. I'm OP.

Our dual citizenship is not with one of those countries. I also never said Western Europe.

We received the dual citizenship relatively recently and haven't had the chance to travel to the other country since getting our passports.

Thank you to the folks who have answered helpfully. It's an uncertain time, and I'm grateful to people willing to share their experiences.

The Canadians were happy to see it. And then I re-entered the US each time on my US passport, as we are required to do. I was readmitted within seconds. When I fly to Europe, I do so on my EU passport, as always. And when I return to the US, it’s on my US passport. Absolutely no changed. If you’re a protest happy green card or visa holder, YMMV, but no changes for law abiding dual citizens!

Exactly. OP is a radical Democrat fear monger.

Well if you are a democrat or independent you should be in fear. People like you are targeting them. Trump is arresting and deporting people with no due process. They do not even ask to see your papers. There are US citizens in El Salvador prisons.

US border police are harassing Canadian crossing the border and Canadians have been warned by the elected officials not to travel to the US. If you are democrat or independent it is risky to leave the country. Specially if you attended a protest. It’s not fear monger just common sense.

Again, totally different. Canadians are not US citizens.

Right, but these people are.

Like was said earlier, they don't care if you are a citizen. It turns out he appears to have been a Trump supporter. If he wasn't, not sure what would have happened to him.

My family has dual French/USA citizenship and most of the time we only travel on US passports because it’s easier. No one has ever cared. Now that there is a visa requirement to travel to the EU for US citizens we will likely renew our French passports and start to use them (the kids’ expired about 2 years ago) but it’s not really a big deal. The dhs doesn’t have most average EU/US dual citizens flagged in their system so it isn’t anything to worry about.
Save your concern or outrage for the issues happening to tourists and visa or green card holders.

Is it fake news that border control checks phones of US citizens?

There are multiple linked stories in this thread of them doing so, and CBP says they do so.
