Nothing brings me greater joy than denying a T15 grad for a job.

Are the owner or an empolyee of the organization? If owner, you can do wahtever you want and your company will go bad soon with your bias. If you are just an employee with some hiring responsibilities, you should be fired because you are doing bad things to your company.

You just described every UVA grad I know. I think they are different nowadays. But, good god, back in the late 80s/90s they were insufferable 'THE University'. Barf

Know a scientist who said they prefer graduate students from lesser known universities over T10 because they are less entitled and more hungry. The ones from T10 don't want to do any of the grunt work because they feel they are too good for it.

You know a scientist? I AM a scientist, as is my husband, and many in our circle. The first criteria is publications (for research), and past job experience. Beyond that there are great programs in famous and less famous institutions, so then it depends on specialty and who they worked with before. But NO ONE is turning away anyone just because of where they graduated, for God's sake!

What a stupid thing to say.

You sound like a nasty, bitter person.

And I say this as someone who was raised in a blue collar household.

Think about substituting any other category for “T15 grad.” Imagine if you held such views for Jews, women, people of color?

You are a bigot, and should really try to work on that.

? " they prefer graduate students from lesser known universities over T10 "

Learn to read, for God's sake. What a stupid thing to say without comprehending what was written.

It must be so hard to go through life with a giant chip on your shoulder like this.

You're doing them a favor by saving them from working for you. It's a win win.

My experience with UVA grads as well.

I even heard some say uva is better than Michigan and UCLA.

DP. I agree with the quoted bit just above. I know good engineers from WVU and VT who show up with a huge chip on their shoulder and tremendous workplace insecurity AND others from the same schools who show up motivated to show they can do the work (but no chip on the shoulder). People in the second group are highly valuable. People in the first group are just disruptive at work.

Do they have a chip or do you inadvertently say obnoxious things to them about being from WV/SWVa? People say the stupidest sh?t to people from Appalachia, even educated people. At my Ivy half the people treated me like a Neanderthal come to life or a circus freak.

I can’t tell you the number of times people at work have made inbreeding jokes when they find out I went to WVU for my undergraduate.

The joke is on them as it is illegal to marry cousins in West Virginia and Kentucky, but perfectly legal in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, New York, California, Illinois, Colorado, Vermont, New Jersey. Connecticut...

It's not illegal because nobody ever did it, thereby not necessitating a law to keep people from inbreeding. Unlike WV and KY where it was so common they had to outlaw it.

Many of them are likely DEI acceptances.

Highly predictable. You got it in under 10 posts. On a different thread, someone managed to bring up DEI in under 6 posts.
