What is important to you in a hotel room?

lol, I'm one of those who prefers breakfast included since it saves so much time, but I sometimes wonder if its worth spending the extra $80 - most of the places offer the same pancakes, oatmeal, fruits, muffins, granola bars, scrambled egg, sausages, cereal, juice and milk.

$80! No way. I’m all about the free breakfast as it saves time and money but no way I’d pay this much more. Usually when we look at hotels, the price difference between hotel with and without free breakfasts is negligible. I’m not expecting anything fancy either.

White bedding!!! A white duvet wrapped in a cover is best because you know they change/clean it every time. Clean, good sheets are essential and if it's all white - you can tell if it is dirty.

After that - location - love walkability if that's what type of vacation it is. Prefer old or interesting buildings - plus they tend to be more soundproff.

Final selling point? Radiant heat in the winter - very hard to find - or windows that open the rest of the year. Balcony is a huge plus.

Obviously there are some trips that are just about business or travel so not as picky then.

I think being freaked out about cleanliness is a lot of stress for very little return. I just don't think about it beyond the basics of food safety and obvious soiling. I do not think there have been any negative consequences.

I use it 100% of the time and same

The breakfast isn’t free, guys. It’s just included or not included.

I'm the PP who actively avoids hotels with free/included breakfast, and I've found there's not much of a price difference between similar-level hotels that include it and those that don't.

Free (or included, however you want to phrase it) breakfast tends to be a big draw for families with little kids and/or multiple kids, because of convenience or budget or both. Lots of kids = lots of noise. I don't sleep well anywhere but my own bed so I place a premium on a quite hotel (and my kids are upper ES and know how to behave).

Clean
Quiet location in the building
Curtains that actually close all the way and block light.
Safe

A good/cold refrigerator
Comfortable bed
Ideally, cotton sheets, 100% cotton
No night light in the bathroom that automatically comes on when you enter
Good soundproofing
A covered hotel entry (for unloading, esp important if it's raining)
Reliable, close parking
Breakfast included
Ice machine
Ideally, vending machines in good working order
Quiet, comfortable heat/air that doesn't blow in my face

Often when traveling we need a property that accepts dogs. We will want a high floor and wiill not accept a lesser room on the ground floor.

1. Good quality, clean, well maintained, great reviews. Prefer mid luxury ones.
2. Location walkable
3. Lobby, restaurants, after dinner coffee lounge or bar
4. Gym
5. View - don’t care as much

Some combination of clean/safe/location.

Then, if I’m traveling with my family, bed size. I strongly prefer a room with 2 queen beds instead of 2 doubles. And since my kids would rather not share a bed, I’ll pay a little more for a room that also has a sofa bed, or better yet , the rare room with bunk beds.
