He doesn’t have a criminal record. This is a civil complaint that was just filed. No verdict, no finding that he did anything wrong yet. If you want to call for an independent investigation then fine, but people already saying he is guilty or a criminal are clueless.

Hi Kyle. Looking forward to your public statement.

Yes, there’s a difference between a civil complaint and a criminal charge. But I doubt his former business partners would have filed this complaint unless he was ripping them off. It doesn’t reflect well on their business if one of their former partners was a sleazeball who embezzled money from the business to spend on strip clubs and other personal expenses.

It’s just so gross. McDaniel totally ignored a lot of us when we reached out to him on FCPS issues. Maybe he was expecting a lap dance first.

The complaint was actually filed on March 13th, a bit over three weeks ago. That’s a long time for McDaniel and the School Board to keep quiet about it, particularly because the accusations represent a possible conflict of interest with his position at the School Board. These accusations reflect on his character: embezzlement, charges for adult entertainment, and use of company cards for his political campaign for the School Board.

For someone who run a campaign on zero tolerance for dishonesty, and proactive accountability to his constituents, he has been too quiet for quite too long.

Not a single cent of our tax money should be used for an independent investigation, nor any legal fees related to this case. McDaniel and the School Board can pay out of pocket for this since they are the ones interested in maintaining him in the School Board.

Also, in Virginia, embezzlement is considered a form of larceny, which can lead to criminal charges, ranging from misdemeanor to felony depending on the value of the property or funds embezzled.

If he does step aside any time soon there will have to be a special election to replace him and that would easily cost at least $250K.

We get ripped off either way. Either we’re stuck with a SB member we can’t trust or we have to foot the bill for a special election.

There is an unconfirmed report that another School Board member was with McDaniel on one of his strip club jaunts. Maybe that’s why FCPS has just been sitting on this.

Ok so he’s not a criminal yet but should he step down while the investigation happens?

What about the fact that McDaniel is a recently converted democrat that was a hardcore republican before he converted to a democrat?

It makes him an opportunistic jerk. And it makes Sandy Anderson‘s alliance with him that much more revolting.🤮

Why would we want around our children someone who seeks adult entertainment while campaigning for the School Board, or better yet, having anything to do with policy that relates to our children? The answer should be we don’t want McDaniel having anything to do with our children now or ever.

What investigation?

He’s a defendant in a civil lawsuit alleging that he embezzled $175K from a company where he was working. The lawsuit also seeks punitive damages, so in total his former company is seeking over $500K in damages.

Let’s say they agree to settle for $200K. The company then dismisses the lawsuit. In that case, there isn’t necessarily an “investigation” but would you really want this guy still in public office?

To back up this statement, maybe not recent, but he was seen as a republican shining star: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/young-virginia-gop-leader-quits-party-over-trumps-tweets/2018/01/16/134c75b6-faef-11e7-b832-8c26844b74fb_story.html

He severed his ties with the Republicans over 6 years ago. He ran unsuccessfully as an independent in 2019 in Springfield District for the seat Laura Jane Cohen won over Elizabeth Schultz, the incumbent. Then he recast himself as a liberal Democrat, moved to Herndon, declared he was bisexual to help get the FCDC endorsement, and got elected as an at-large member last year.

From this, one would infer that he’s an opportunist who is about as honest when it comes to his politics as he is when it comes to his business dealings.

No. I was saying that because people here seem to think he’s not done anything wrong enough to leave his position.

While they stay quiet, it's making our district look awful. https://x.com/lcpsdobetter/status/1908590974210556119?s=42
