‘Trump Slump’ Looms as Foreign Visitors Rethink Travel to U.S.

Trump and/or his administration have managed to trash all three countries. I can't imagine that will encourage tourism from those countries. Why would you visit a country whose government is hostile toward you?

Damn. Tourist revenue is going to crater.

I wouldn't want to come here and risk being detained. It's not worth it

I’m here in the US and I’m rethinking my trips to MAGA-land. Probably my last trip to the Jersey Shore for a long time. I’d rather go to Canada and spend my money there.

I’ve read that Disney has been offering some insane deals to Canadians and Brits. They don’t discount like that if they don’t have to.

Monmouth County - the northern part of the shore - is fine! And has lots of cute towns with gorgeous beaches. It’s south of Point Pleasant where it starts to get really Trumpy.

I'm OP and I live in Florida - and don't get your hopes up. The only thing more incompetent than the Trump administration is Florida Dems.

Florida won’t be blue for at least another couple of generations.

Even if people start out blue as young adults, they overwhelmingly turn conservative as they age. That’s just a fact.

A sign of the times...these two articles appeared in today's summary of WP articles. They echo concerns I've been seeing in social media videos about personal cellphones being searched by Customs officials (This was a big story a week or so ago regarding the French researcher that was denied entry after his phone was checked: https://www.newsweek.com/border-patrol-checking-phones-social-media-messages-us-immigration-2048147)

Apparently "while the laws on what CBP can do haven’t changed significantly in recent years, the way it uses its powers and who is most vulnerable are shifting under the Trump administration. There’s been an increase in reports from travelers coming into the United States of requests to access devices."

How to lock down your phone if you’re traveling to the U.S.

So “insane deals” just to Canadians and Brits — while struggling Americans save to pay for once-in-a-lifetime trips for their kids? That doesn’t sound like a great long term strategy.

Except now it's the opposite - young people are conservative and older people are less so

They’ve been doing it for years. Americans drive down for a couple of days and pack sandwiches. Overseas travelers fly in for a couple of weeks and dine out. Every tourist destination with a choice would prefer the big spenders.

Millennials have not done this.

Ever see some of the folks the Boss has surrounding him in the Colts Neck area or the multi-generational Republicans who inherited real estate from their parents in Spring Lake and Sea Girt?

Also, Deal. Fair share of red MAGA hats out that way, too.

Deal is another whole thing but overall most of Monmouth - including all of the above you mentioned and my DH grew up in one of them - has swung left over the past decade like many other wealthy educated suburbs.
