Oh, this is hilarious. I was skimming the order. After DOGE did all this stuff, they were now arguing that they cannot carry out a remedy because they have no authority to do so.

I'm unclear on this, and it's probably buried in the various cases naming Musk as a defendant (quite a few of them). I had heard last week it was determined to be an agency subject to FOIA vs PRA. How that ties into Congressional oversight and confirmations I can't say I know anything about.

Rubio appointed Lewin to head USAID while Marocco, who has finished taking a hatchet to USAID (and is a J6er and was picked by Trump, not Rubio), is going back to his regular job at State.

The judge just said that Lewin, who used to be a part of DOGE, is subject to the DOGE preliminary injunction and cannot work at USAID.

Fwiw, there is someone melting down right now about this "micromanaging" by the judge.

They are just glossing right over the unconstitutional actions of Elon Musk and DOGE and what a tremendously bad thing that is. There's a lot of ends-justify-the-means thinking among conservatives right now but c'mon, guys. The constitution, it's the big one. Do better.

The State Department notified Congress that it was absorbing USAID and firing just about everyone.

FYI - that's not how this works. Congress can say Yea or Nay to this but the State Department cannot dismantle a congressionally created independent agency. Nor can DOGE. And while the Chuang PI is stayed, the lawsuits are ongoing.

Why is this group letting young people work for Peace Corps overseas with no other american humanitarians on the ground? That feels risky? Are we counting on the French or other allies to take care of these youth? State Department ?

They are very isolated out there.
