Just at nih or is this an hhs-wide thing? Fellow opdiv here and things things feel very uncertain at the moment as we wait this out.

There was a Reddit post the other day saying they plan to consolidate IT, HR, admin, etc. across the board of all HHS OpDivs. Who knows though.

Initially I thought it was consolidating into one office at NIH (which HR already is), but is the thought to consolidate into one *HHS* service center to support all op/divs in HR, IT, Comms, etc.?

Who’s telling you this?

HR, IT, Comms, Policy are IC-specific not centralized at NIH.

why not one for whole govt

In case this is a serious question and not a joke, the answer is because consolidation absolutely does not work effectively for the areas listed above—even at the agency—let alone above. Welcome to a world of bottlenecks and never getting anything done again.

HR is, under OHR. Yes there are HR “liaisons” in ICs but they aren’t official HR operations. HR was consolidated a number of years ago, prior to that each IC had their own HR operations office.

Yeah, indeed why not? The White House can set up a central office for everything. 😂🤡

Reddit has the most up to date info. People are leaking things. Nothing firm on NIH yet. Some speculation.

Memoli is presenting the NIH reorganization plan to HHS today. I assume details will emerge soon.

Are you intramural or extramural? I heard they’re leaving the scientists alone for now.

I haven’t heard anything and someone on Reddit reported the proposal was “turned down”. Whatever that means.

We heard a bit about a plan to centralize some admin functions - so I wonder if the RIF plan was turned down?

Current reorganization plans are deeper than previously proposed. NIH wants to cut 7,000 FTE positions through voluntary and involuntary departures.
