Americans don't hate cities. We just like being safe from carjacking by 12 year olds with guns.

This can't be said enough. Americans who hate "cities" really just hate the crime, and graffiti and weed smoke, and so forth. None of those things are inherent in a city.

DC had a weed culture. You need to embrace the culture.

We'll all be walking soon enough, or living in our cars.

I wonder.

Exactly, beautiful, riverfront high-rise properties along the renamed Trump River.

No thanks. They can keep the drugs and trashy casinos out of northern VA!

This. In Italy, there were 499 homicides from January 2023 to July 2024, a year and a half. This was in the whole country of over 50 million people. Rome has more than 2 million people. Milan has more than 1 million. Naples has close to 1 million.

There were 274 murders in DC in 2023. DC has 700,000 people.

So DC is better at it. Isn’t that a good thing?

And that’s comparing DC to a country where the mafia originated. Switzerland has lax gun laws, 8.8 million people, and had 53 murders in 2023.

The home of MS-13, El Salvador, had 214 murders in 2023 and has 6.6 million people.

In 2015, El Salvador had 6,656 homicides, making it one of the world’s deadliest countries. In 2023, there were 214 homicides.

Being tough on crime leads to less murders. Shocking.

No problem. We'll just put in more revenue, er, speed cameras.

But there will be no MD or VA drivers to fleece. Rich DC residents ride bikes. Poor DC residents don't get charged the full fee. Womp womp.

Lots of poor D.C. residents ride bikes, too, but apparently cooks and busboys commuting to work are invisible to you.

Most poor ride the bus or take Metro. They are not the ones in cycling suits on the bike lanes.

Where do you live?

This signals hard times for DC

Why hasn't the Washington post ran an article about this yet?

DC stores are already closing up and leaving due to crime. Looting and smash and grab. Streets look empty. Now with no employees working, all the small business carry outs are going to lose and close. Empty office spaces. Bars and restaurants look empty. DC starting look like a ghost town.
