The man is 88, if you're questioning why God lets people die, maybe look at the kids who die unnecessarily from hunger or preventable diseases.

and then realize that a good God wouldn't let kids die and wouldn't answer prayers to keep an old Pope alive.

God doesn’t kill kids. God’s plan was for people to live in the Garden of Eden.

Adam and Eve wanted to be Gods themselves. They were dissatisfied with their lives in the Garden of Eden.

The Fall

3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

If you really believe that “God lets children die,” you believe in God, right?

God didn’t force Adam and Eve to disobey Him because He gave them free will. God doesn’t want robots made of flesh.

Adam and Eve chose to disobey God because they wanted to be Gods. That’s why humankind no longer is disease free and children get sick and die. If you believe in God, you believe in His word and in the Bible.

Q. Why does God allow the innocent to suffer?

A. https://www.gotquestions.org/innocent-suffer.html

Q. Why does God allow sickness?
A. https://www.gotquestions.org/God-allow-sickness.html

The issue I don’t understand is that the people most angry at God don’t believe in Him.

You don’t believe in God, so why are you blaming God for the deaths of children and the suffering of the world?

Can you tell us the logic in that?

So punish the whole class for the actions of a couple of knuckleheads. Jesus wouldn’t have a thing to do with almost every church that uses his name.

He wasn’t perfect, but I’m gonna tell you the psycho right wing lunatics are gonna take over and it’s not gonna be good.

It was a huge deal to have a Jesuit as the pope and the pendulum is going to swing way in the other direction,

So switch religions.

The Pope has tremendous influence across the world. Telling a person to switch religions isn’t addressing the fact that if the next Pope is anti-intellectual, doesn’t speak for the poor, doesn’t call out the sins of exploitation and cruelty it will have a negative impact on the world.

Also, to the PP who called JPII a right winger, that’s inaccurate and simplistic. His legacy is complicated and tarnished but he was integral to the fall of Soviet communism.

Is conservative cafeteria Catholic better?

Holy Mary, mother of god, pray for us sinners.

Do internet prayers work?

Prayer is prayer. It doesn’t matter where it is taking place.

Does prayer work and does the Pope need prayers?

Guess he's better because we haven't heard anything about him lately. People only care when he's dying.

According to CNN he's on a breathing machine...he had a major episode today. It doesn't sound like he's better to me.

He’s also probably the main reason why we don’t have female priests. The relegation of women to second class status within the Catholic church is one of the primary reasons why the church is in institutional decline. It’s all in JP2.

My bad - it’s not all in JP2. It’s all on JP2.

There have never been women priests in the history of Catholicism before or after JPII, and Francis has unequivocally stated this so I don’t see how you make that statement. If you want to talk about JPII maybe a new thread is in order.

He is stable alert and oriented after a bronchospasm. Prognosis remains unknown.

What are we praying for? That he isn't suffering? Because he is going to die.

How do you know there haven’t been women priests? why can’t there be women priests? we are all made in the image and likeness of God.

Read Ordinatio Sacerdotalis for a full exegesis.

Asserting that the ontological inability to receive Holy Orders somehow relegates women to a reduced “status” in the Church evinces, among other things, a complete absence of understanding of the sacrificial nature of the priesthood.

Of course he's going to die -- he's human. and Of course he's going to heaven - he's the Pope! So he doesn't need prayers, even if you believe that prayers can help.

Sure, reading "Ordinatio Sacerdotalis" will put to rest any concerns about women having a reduced status in the church, just because only men can be priests. [sarcasm]
