No pilots for A-A2 or AP/IB. I don't know about middle school. I am fairly certain they are in the same boat. The math ones weren't cut for budget reasons, that was social studies. We were supposed to have them this fall, all schools were supposed to have new resources starting in a couple weeks. Our inservice next Wednesday was intended to be instruction on how to use them. We just got the email that the topic has been changed, it is now "a balanced assessment program" and "making connections between learning intentions and systemwide common assessments". --HS math teacher |
If it’s not been selected yet, it won’t be piloted this year. |

Update from instructional services:
“ No new basal resources are under contract for the 2025-26 school year. We anticipate the division will extend the use of Mathspace for all middle school students (including 6 in the middle) and for high school students through Algebra 2. We anticipate that this will be in place by the first day of school. Courses above Algebra 2 may continue to use books purchased in prior years and/or approved online resources. We will provide additional updates once we know more.” |
I know for a fact some schools are piloting a math basal. Not sure what that means for adoption next year but it’s happening. They did community review but all the info is down and I don’t think the board picked one to go with. |
At the elementary? Or secondary? I’m a dept chair at a secondary school and was told Reid didn’t like any of the proposed suggestions and we were going to have to start over next year. I’m hoping that’s wrong. A lot of time and effort went into the original evaluation and selection. |
Elementary. Maybe only k-2. |
| Just noticed community review for middle and high. anyone know whats going on? |
| They’re adopting new resources for AGA (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2). Even if kids do more math or start the AGA course earlier, they are considered by FCPS to be the core High School courses. So they are the first to get review for materials. |
It looks like 6th, 7th, and 8thh also |
| So no mathspace anymore? Will this just be supporting materials or will everything be taught through this online system? (I was hoping that math teachers could start to move away from everything being on the computer.) |
| Anybody have an update? |
I thiink it's actually more of a text book? says you can go and look at the materials. |
Yes. They have to for consistency. Resources that you’re used to using in 6th, 7th, and 8th you’ll want for AGA. Both teachers and students. Also, in middle school many teachers have more than one prep, so you’ll have a teacher with an Algebra class and a Prealgebra class (math 8 or math 7 HN). They’ll want to use the same resources. |
| Why can't the default just be a physical textbook and workbook? Every other country that has the best math scores in the world uses physical textbooks and workbooks with worked examples and direct teaching. It is so much more efficient. |
| Does any one know if this text book is a good one? |
