What are the chances for being accepted after waitlist?

We had the same thing happen to us last year, some very positive feedback but then WL. I suspected perhaps our PSD might have revealed that they weren't our very top choice. Otherwise I can't know what happened, perhaps more people gave 1st choice letters and we didn't so they WL us.

This makes sense. Sometimes the FC is the reason. But good feedback probably also means you are very high on the WL.

Maybe you didn’t express fc? Did your WL move in that case though?

We did express FC in this case and remain hopeful

Best of luck! Is this a SS or coed? Could your psd help you ask ?

I would just call the closest/most friendliest person I know in the admission office and speak off the record. Mention how you love the school and it is unfortunate to be WL. Ask how you can better prepare, if you decide to reapply.

Schools are actually willing to share feedback, even off the record?

Many of these schools may not have spots in non-entry years. So if you wait for middle school there’s completely different criteria in play then.

Did anyone get into dalton this year?

Know a family that got in off the waitlist. PSD indicated they were very very high on the waitlist and would likely receive a spot well before the deadline.

For Collegiate, my son (HS) was first or second on the waitlist. I know because the admissions director was calling us daily giving us update on status. He eventually went with a different coed HS.

Is anyone hearing from the middle school waitlists yet?

We heard from one at a 2Tish school that we had been kind of surprised to be waitlisted by.

Also curious about middle school waitlists, we were waitlisted to both of our top choice schools. I regret we didn't express FC, but we truly couldn't decide between two (first time through this process and learning). We had great conversations with both admissions directors, so now we wait. Do waitlists typically move quickly or not at all? With one week down, are the chances diminishing?

I think most of the TT schools wait until after the response deadline and then figure out who to call from their waitlist in order to balance out that class. So the week or two after that (March 3rd) is key.

Also, if you’re applying to 7th grade, Hunter test results come out in mid-March and those will likely open up a couple of extra spots in 7th at most TT schools from kids whose families wanted to save $400k. Boarding school acceptances can also create late vacancies - Andover et al are also mid-March.

Do the middle schools not worry about "yield" before that March 3 deadline? Good to know there may be hope even after that date.
