What are the chances for being accepted after waitlist?

They likely went to WL earlier than other schools since offers for K went out Monday instead of Thursday.

We put in an attrition application at Trinity, were told that they would actually like us to complete it because they anticipated some space, did so, and then were told that actually they made a mistake and they didn't have any space after all, so either they were expending a lot of effort sending us misleading emails or there's some serious confusion in their admissions office over enrollment numbers.

This happened this year? Contracts just went out this week and aren’t due until 2/24.

Yes, it was this year. It did seem odd that they'd be this certain this early, but I don't know why Trinity of all places would be trying to spare my feelings by lying instead of simply sending a polite email that they weren't interested in moving forward. Maybe they had a last-minute application from a legacy or a big donor or whatever and that person is ahead of us in the queue if a spot opens up?

Maybe? What grade were you applying to? Or division if you’re not comfortable sharing (although if you share you can quickly delete!)

I deleted the grade in case you don’t want it hanging out there. It’s a tricky entrance point because they bring most new kids in from PFP. And that class in particular hasn’t had many attrition spots.

Sorry it was a whirlwind of confused messaging and hope you get to apply in the future. Or better yet, find a school you love for next year.

Thanks - we ended up with some good news from other schools so it's NBD, just seemed kind of perplexing.

Did anyone get a surprise WL when you had reasonably expected more positive results? Are there typical reasons schools do this? Is it simply a matter of space or are there other considerations?

What does “expected more positive results” mean? As in you had backchannel via your PSD things went well? Or that an acceptance was expected?

Don't want to get into details. We know nothing is a sure thing. Just wondering if there is a reason schools do this other than space considerations.

I think it comes down to numbers in the end. Even connected families who have a leg up aren’t guaranteed (Dalton had a data leak in 2014 of alumni whose children were rejected, which made news in the NY Post)

Admissions heads also have overall class composition to keep in mind as well. They don’t want all of the same.

That is about what we thought, thanks 😊

We had the same thing happen to us last year, some very positive feedback but then WL. I suspected perhaps our PSD might have revealed that they weren't our very top choice. Otherwise I can't know what happened, perhaps more people gave 1st choice letters and we didn't so they WL us.
