Also curious about middle school waitlists, we were waitlisted to both of our top choice schools. I regret we didn't express FC, but we truly couldn't decide between two (first time through this process and learning). We had great conversations with both admissions directors, so now we wait. Do waitlists typically move quickly or not at all? With one week down, are the chances diminishing?
I think most of the TT schools wait until after the response deadline and then figure out who to call from their waitlist in order to balance out that class. So the week or two after that (March 3rd) is key. Also, if you’re applying to 7th grade, Hunter test results come out in mid-March and those will likely open up a couple of extra spots in 7th at most TT schools from kids whose families wanted to save $400k. Boarding school acceptances can also create late vacancies - Andover et al are also mid-March.
