how to talk to young kids about admissions

I would tell them it's random. Play eeny, meeny, miny, moe with them. Tell them they are all good schools.

I would carry this concept of randomness forward as they get older. Randomness among good choices.

4 year old kid absolutely hated one of the schools he did a play date for K. He would randomly bring it up for years.

He did eventually explain that the PE teacher was loud and seemed mean. But he was probably 8 by then.

Kids have opinions. If it had been our choice for him, we would have had a very unhappy child.
