DC public schools are not better than Takoma Park schools.

And if in Maryland, you are in state for all the Maryland colleges.

Look in both and base it on which house you like best. If the houses are a toss up, choose Takoma Park for sure. Better schools, better services, more community.

The public schools in CCDC are most certainly better than the public schools in Takoma Park.

Absolutely not.
They are not even in the same league.
TPMS & Blair are leagues above Deal and JR

You are confusing the selection magnet with the reputation of Blair its self. Put it this way; even after brining in some of the best students from a massive county to prop up Blair’s test scores, it still manages to rank towards the bottom of the county. Don’t compare the best school in a city to lower ranked school in a county.

There's no confusion. You’re the one who is clueless.
Blair is the most decorated, popular school in the county and their SAT test scores are not towards the bottom. Their test scores are better than JR'S.
Blair runs circles around the best school in the city.

What does this mean? Once more, are you taking credit for the Magnet program which draws from all of MoCo and is housed at Blair, or are you saying it is decorated for lots of things outside the Magnet program?

Let's just be honest...anyone that moves to MD with $.02 that factors schools highly into the decision picks the Whitman, Churchill, Walter Johnson, etc. feeder pattern.

Exactly. It's like bragging about CCDC's proximity to School Without Walls, which no one does.

Yes.
Most people who moved to MoCo for schools in real life, pick Blair, BCC and Einstein the most.
DCUM is not real.

For the typical, well resourced, non-magnet kid, Blair and JR are more alike than different. Blair is much bigger, so will have more AP and activity options, but both have ENOUGH of everything to be a comprehensive school that can meet the needs of almost all kids. Neither are Whitman or Langley, but one is not leagues above the other.

Whitman and Langley nothing compared to Blair, except they have lot more white, rich kids.
But then again, that's DCUM flavor.

Technically both neighborhoods are either partially in Ward 4 or share a Main Street district in Ward 4 but I wouldn't really call them similar. They aren't wildly different, but I wouldn't call them fundamentally the same at all. There are a lot of rich white NIMBYs in both, but TKPK definitely has small town hippie vibes and CCDC is a lot more K Street adjacent preppy.

TKPK is also more diverse.

+1. I think this is a good characterization. Lots of private school and country club folks in CCDC. Takoma Park has gotten expensive, so, I'm sure there are more big law attorneys and generational wealth than in the past, but, it is not close to country clubs or sought after privates, so, it definitely attracts a different type of rich person.

We moved to historic TKPK from Capitol Hill for similar reasons. We also looked at homes in Chevy Chase and Bethesda but didn’t love the vibe. Kids are thriving in TKPK elementary and middle schools and one will start at Blair CAP in Sept. The neighborhood is safe, walkable, has an amazing tree canopy, and we really like our neighbors. My recommendations is to spend time in both neighborhoods and get a good feel.

And better student outcome but I guess that isn’t how you measure schools. Your bias is showing, if Blair is so great it must be the students who let it down is that what your point is? Maybe we can create a magnet program that attracts serious students to elect to bus into the school to lift the averages of the IB kids so that locals take unfounded pride and get distracted form the vast majority of outcomes. Then they can go online and brag about some Asian kid from Bethesda who was a NMSF. That sounds like it might work, correction it sounds like it is already working.

CCDC is basically a retirement village. Only move there if you’re ok with your kids dodging all the elderly and their walkers on their way to school.

Well if you disregard College preparedness, college acceptance rates and test scores I guess you could be right. It’s not bias if it’s if is the simple facts. Go ahead and explain why performance isn’t fair or lower results needs to be qualified with an asterix. I’ll even grant you everyone doesn’t start the race in the same spot but the finish line is the finish line. It’s also fine to consider higher ranked schools to be sour grapes and not want anything to do with them, you just sound crazy when you proclaim your Pontiac to be a Cadillac.

These are two very similar neighborhoods on the same side of the same city. They have comparable price points and amenities. Sure, one has more hills and a *slightly*different political vibe but they are far more similar than they are different and if you moved from one to the other, your life would not change much at all.

It’s like saying a pair of new balances are totally different from Nikes. In some ways, sure, but mainly not.

Blair send more students to the ivies and top 20 than both schools combined.

The Magnet program sends a massive %age to the Ivies and top 20. Nobody is denying the Magnet program is excellent, but if you aren't in the Magnet program then Blair is a far different experience.
