They don’t have to be Taliban to support what the Taliban is doing to women. A man who is out there in Afghanistan actively risking his life to fight for the rights of Afghan women? Sure, bring him here as a refugee. But that isn’t 99.9% of this group. |
I don't know that much about it, but if the process is weighted towards people that worked with the American troops, it totally makes sense that there were more men that worked with the American troops than women, and likely more single men since it was probably kind of risky even then. We have neighbors that came over from Iraq because the husband helped the American troops in Iraq in a technical/professional capacity (basically utilities supprt). I am sure there are just not as many women working in those fields in Afghanistan, plus less women whose families were comfortable with them working with the majority-male American troops. Trump just seems to miss the "pay it forward" concept. This 1600 people is really nothing in the scope of the American population. But *cancelling* the commitments to them will make a big splash for the future in countries where we would like people to help our troops with translation, clean water, transportation, electricity etc. |
They got a spot on the flights if their lives were in danger because they worked with the US Government. How many women and kids do you think were doing that? It is always shocking to me that the immigrants here have the least amount of compassion. Not you but I am thinking of two other people I know. It’s almost as if they had it bad and don’t want to help or make it easy for other immigrants. It really is quite surprising to me how many immigrants are Trump supporters. |
+2 Yep. Go be with your kids. |
200,000 refugees let in already, and additional refugees must be let in!
How about do what Trump did with Syrian refugees and arrange for nearby countries to help them. More people helped with less money. |
What makes you think he did that, other than refuse to allow refugees in? |
Local refugee program spent a lot time arranging for 2 Burmese children orphaned when their parents were killed in a car accident to live with relatives in the US. Their flight got cancelled last night. |
You MAGAs are sick, twisted people. |
I am the PP and I agree that canceling the flights, if it truly is only 1600 left, doesn’t make sense and will have long-term harms. I’m a little more skeptical of the idea that men were such a large percentage of the refugees overall just because they worked with the US. Not disbelieving you, but that’s been true in other instances where the inbound population has not been so heavily male. And given how incredibly vulnerable Afghan women are, it still feels a little unusual to me. |
Because they did that, working with Jordan and Turkey. |
This is heartbreaking. |
No, don’t bring him here as a refugee. He should stay there and find other like minded people and fight for his country. |
Unless they’re willing to denounce their religion and their country’s treatment of women, I couldn’t care less and frankly don’t want them coming here anyway. And if they claim that they do care about the women there, they should stay and fight and make things better in their own country. |
The Afghan men who helped the U.S. have wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters. These women are particularly vulnerable and of course should be included. |
TF is wrong with you. This is not Mexico or Guatemala. It’s Afghanistan, with its Taliban. |
