Ranking high school privates on 2025 college season

With all the admissions hooks they have.

Sadly, unless things seriously improve at Sidwell with ED2 and RD admissions, we're headed for yet another annual round of recriminations, with the usual scapegoating of college counselors. Once again, at least a couple of them will have to be sacrificed to appease the angry gods (er, parents).

Please don't choose your kid's high school based on this nonsense. Kids will choose a college based on their own record and will have the same chances from any high school in the area. Choose a school that will suit your kid -- same with choosing a college.

Just for reference (I’m a sidwell parent) lots of kids are holding off posting until their friends get acceptances…. So maybe don’t judge yet

1. Maret
2. GDS
3. St. Albans
4. NCS
5. Sidwell

Those are mediocre schools compared with Thomas Jefferson.

Please tell the college counselors not to worry and that they will find terrific communities to move on to next year! They will be much happier in the end.

This is such a ridiculous thread given how many people swear they aren't choosing private school because of college admissions.

I'm not sure how STA is faring in comparison since my daughter only knows a couple of the boys.

Wait until RD. It always looks like this for NCS in the early rounds because they do have a difficult time with the large schools that offer EA. Ivies and top privates so not offer EA….the class will end up with great overall results, as they always do.

How about don't judge ever?

Who gives a sh*t about the school? I only care about how my own kids do.

My first--not at a Big 3 or even a Big 5 for that matter is at an Ivy unhooked. Accepted RD to 2 Ivies, Hopkins, Duke, Pomona, Northwestern and Georgetown. Didn't apply ED or REA anywhere.

There are a ton of kids who haven't posted yet and another segment that won't post at all. And that was true for each of the last several years.

My kid is an Ivy RD acceptance at a private last year and didn't post. I expect more kids to not post in the future as SM kind of is by the way side. My kid is very social but private when it comes to himself.

All of these teens will end up where they will thrive. All the DC privates have rigorous curriculums. Sidwell, being Quaker, is quite rigid and yes v academic…but all are the latter.

Let’s just wish the upcoming graduates and their families well.
