I agree that people don't know how to accurately gauge the age of people with skin colors they are not familiar with. Children who are tall and develop early are always expected to act more mature than they are. Children who are short and look younger are treated like babies. Bottom line is, the police should be more cautious about identifying suspects. But who gets hired into the police force nowadays? Probably not the best and brightest... |

Maybe you should become a cop. Sounds like you have all the answers. |

Read the thread dum dum "+1. It sucks that this happened but she’ll get a nice settlement. New car, new house, vacations and therapy if she needs it." |

 I do know don't cuff an 11yo. I do know that. |

Are 11 year old girls stealing cars? |

Yes, sounds like you'll do great with MPD. |

In this case it's not clear the cops are even getting a slap on the wrist. The department released a statement saying they were fully in the right. I guess I can't understand how this poor kid ended up in cuffs. Even if she's tall, she's still clearly a child, and was accompanied by another child, and they were both carrying backpacks in a school zone. How hard would it have been to just say "Hey, kid, where are you coming from" and the kid presumably would answer that they are coming from their 5th grade classroom and then be on their way. I'm also pretty alarmed at the (white, male) cop telling this kid's cousin to move along. God bless the cousin for having the courage to not only stay when the cop tells her to leave her tween cousin alone with him, but to film it as well. |

This is an understated part of all of this. Had the cousin not recorded this, I’m sure the 11 year old would’ve ended up being taken and booked, or this entire story would’ve been swept under the rug. |

Yes, middle schoolers are stealing cars in DC. A 13 year old girl killed an Uber Eats driver a few years ago in Wash DC, and nothing was done by the mayor. It's because of the immunity from juvenile detention stupidity of the far left. Obviously, parents or older adults are letting their kids do the crime since they do not have to do any time. |

None of those articles are about preteen girls. |
|
I think the thing that bothers me the most is that once the police realized that they had a young child in cuffs and that the child was completely innocent and crying, they still didn’t take steps to make sure she got home safely and to make sure her parents knew.

The last 2 links aren’t 11 year olds, they are of teenagers who can legally drive…. Major difference. |

You are correct that these particular links are about 11 year old boy carjackers and 15 year old girl carjackers. There are numerous other 12 year old reported carjackers, generally with many priors. There was the famous case in DC of the two girls, 13 and 15, who carjacked and killed the Uber driver. I didn't immediately find any reported 11 year old girl carjackers. |

They didn’t know they were looking for an adult. |
