USAMO silver, Math Tutor, Pottery Instructor, Youth City Council, various state Model UN awards, summer research project with professor in stats and urban planning.
DC is now hoping for Princeton, Berkeley, or Uchicago.

I find it hard to believe that someone that really wanted Williams will be equally happy at Berkeley (vs. Dartmouth or Amherst or even Pomona). Talk about a size difference.

If you like having a lot of natural beauty around campus and are more interested in having a quality math program,Berkeley-Williams isn’t ridiculous. People here way overrate size of institution and don’t actually think about what the experience is for certain majors/students.

is my dc worse?

Don't be dumb. I'm trying to make a decision about which school we'll apply to ED next year. Can only choose one, and I'm wondering how ED affects the stats for some of the most common schools people apply to here.

This won't help you.

Why wouldn't you want to go where its best for your major?

Maybe b/c it's in the middle of a city and you hate cities. Or maybe b/c you also love dance and another place has great dance opportunities. You know you're being purposefully obtuse.

That still doesn’t make any sense to me as Berkeley is a decent sized city in a major metro area and Williams is in the middle of nowhere. You might have an intro class at Berkeley that’s larger than all of Williams.

To be helpful to OP.
It’s a stressful process with such a lack of data.
Even naviance and scoir are unreliable because the data is old and doesn’t account for the changing landscape so it helps to get a good picture of what this years’ ED admissions realities are.

How are random data points about strangers helpful?

+1 I'd tell you my kids' but you wont' be impressed with his ED choice anyway.

You replied to my post, and I would be impressed because 1. I’m not a pretentious arse, and 2. I’m excited for any student who gets his/her ED option, and 3. I don’t buy into that whole elitism nonsense anyway.

Congrats to your son!

Add some safeties please! Nothing personal.

And others don't care about location, just want the best program possible.

Because the difference in math quality between top institutions isn’t that intense. You know pretty early whether you’re Princeton PhD math quality and the rest figure it out. Also certain schools are way better in certain areas of mathematics and some schools have inspirational faculty (UCLA). If you want an urban campus, you lose nothing choosing Harvard over Princeton

Did you read their comment? Not everyone is obsessed with the size of the school they attend

Most people who apply to lacs apply to some universities.

If DC didn't get into an elite LAC ED, they would have put in RD to some universities as well. Because you just never know as an unhooked white or Asian kid applying to tiny LACs. But the first choice was always an elite LAC.

I love all the people in here pretending that Williams is a bad school because it's small and isolated. It's the top-ranked liberal arts college in the country! Not a great fit for every kid, but an excellent experience for many.

I’m not the poster but it makes sense to me. If you’re aiming for “elite” lacs, there are only so many. It stands to reason that one would cast a wider net with the unpredictability of admissions.
