Any Emory ED1ers?

Oxford stats virtually identical to Emory main campus stats. Two different experiences. For some kids from the South who don’t want to go North for the small liberal arts college experience and who don’t care about sports or having an on-campus/nearby party scene, Oxford can be a good fit. Congrats to all successful ED applicants and best to all who didn’t get in. There are a lot of great places out there that would be lucky to have you.

I've seen the 32% posted throughout the forum concerning Emorys ED rate not knowing it was for both campuses and not just Emory. 26% ED1 is low and lower than Amherst. Also the ED rate likely fell again this year too.

It’s one school and these kids have agreed to go if accepted for whichever campus they chose. All schools will likely go down again this year, including Vandy, which is already reported to have record number of apps.

Vandy and Emory are peer schools. Not Vandy and Oxford. Nothing wrong with Emory having a satellite campus, but you're using said campus to knock Emory down a peg, which isn't fair. No one counts UVA wise in UVa stats, nor do they count NYUs 2 other campuses in its acceptance rate or do they count Barnard into Columbias numbers. You all only do it to Emory because you all are biased.

You sound unhinged. Emory considers them all Emory students at the time of admission. That’s how they file the cds.

You're lying again. They only report Emory College in the CDS.

Do you have a hook at Vandy? It’s a much tougher admit than Emory.

It is not clearly. It's all the same now

The acceptance rate at Vandy is half that of Emory for ED1. It’s very difficult. If it’s your kid’s dream, then go for it, but it is more common practice to move to slightly less selective schools for ED2.

The acceptance rate does not tell the whole story. Vandy, like NYU, and USC are throw away app schools. Kids apply just to say they applied. Emory is not that so the quality of applicant is likely higher.

Emory throwing shade at Vanderbilt? How moronic. Emory's ED admit rate is 40%, Vanderbilt's is 15%.

The rate is just not important. It is the stats for that particular kid.

I’m so sorry. And sorry for the other person whose (obviously highly qualified) Big 3 child didn’t get the decision they were hoping for.

Maybe it was their chosen major or who else applied from their school, but more than likely it was the combination of too many applicants/too little time for a solid review process/a lot of randomness in the process.

I hope your DD is doing okay and lands somewhere great.

You don't really pick a major at Emory as a First Year. Just a tough admit this year I think.

The common denominator is Emory mom.

Vandy and Emory are definitely not peer schools.

They are sorry to say. Vandy, Emory, Rice, WashU all in same bucket.

Why is it that every Tufts, Colby, UVA, NEU, UChicago, Emory and Wake discussion devolves into acrimony and hatred? These are colleges. I don't get the overarching desire to seek out conflict.

Because people are basically bad at heart. It is their nature. They do not like what others have so they try to tear it down. Or they have formed opinions that they so beleive that they cannot understand why someone has a different view.

Other than UChicago, there is relatively more insecurity about the reputations of these schools by associated parents/students. What this results in is one side heavily boosting or defending themselves and the other side thinking it’s entertaining poking fun and keeping them down. Also just becomes a vicious cycle. At the very root for both sides, is the appeal to the human nature of seeking status and self-importance.

True for some -- not UVA, Emory, UChi on the list above.

Sometimes this board reminds me of my alma mater's football forums with all the pointless bickering and adults investment in 18yos.

You forgot the grand daddy of them all, Michigan and its little brother Wisconsin.

The only problem with your post is that last year's class at BC was 37% African, Hispanic, Asian and Native American descent.
