What do you think of nose rings?

The right size on the right nose shape can look beautiful. I want to be surprised by the strong aversion in this thread but this is DCUM, anything but a bland WASP look is trashy.

Tattoos and nose piercings (or multiple ear piercings) signal low class.

Like it or not, the world judges your appearance, and certain things make you look trashy. If you don’t believe me, go read the multiple threads in the beauty section on how to look wealthy/upper class.

Lol no. I work for a large financial services company and most of the women in my office have more than one ear piercing, including the most senior women. Nose piercings are also not uncommon. Please join me here in the 2000s lmao.

+1. Im surprised by posters thinking it’s counterculture or aligning it with wild or brightly colored hairstyles.

I live in a college town and plenty of very basic/preppy styled young women have them. I work in a fairly conservative corporate office and, again, there are polished and accomplished young women with them. I find them as shocking as women showing their ankles at this point.

Does dcum think everyone with a tattoo is a sailor or a prisoner?

I’m also surprised by the over reaction here. You don’t have to like it but words like disgusting, trashy, and low class to describe women who have made a personal choice that doesn’t hurt anyone is outrageous. Sad that you have so much disgust for people.

OP is a troll or has a grudge against someone with a nose ring.

This thread is bizarre. I’m a 47 year old mom with three post grad degrees and I have a small gold nose ring. So do many of my friends who are PhD’s, lawyers, etc. We live out west so maybe that’s the difference but it’s really not a big deal even in professional environments.

I dint care what anyone says, they are gross and nauseating. The tiny stud is a little better though in terms of appearance than the bull ring is just revolting. BUT the WORST part that no one has yet to mention is the hygiene aspect! The nose and mouth carry the most germs out of any body part (and that includes the anus). Those areas are RIPE for infection. Any piercings in the nose or mouth dramatically increases the chance of infection. Whenever I see a nose or mouth ring, all I can think of is infection.

Right?? The over reaction here is bizarre. Do these people live in the dc area? Because in addition to all the women in my office, if I look around at the other moms at school events many of them have multiple ear piercings as well. The María tash style curated ear is still quite popular among women in their 30s and up.

Not a sailor or a prisoner…just low class and trashy.

Of course we realize they are more popular now. We also realize the growing income inequality and standards resulting in less people with legit class.

ICYMI: just because a lot of women have tattoos, etc. doesn’t make it classy.

lol. Money does not buy class. Let me guess, you’re a sahm to a 7 figure household and you think you are the end all be all on class??

I don't think they are gross or "low class" or whatever. I know a decent number of women (including my sister) with nose studs.

I do think they kind of date you though. Every woman I know with a nose stud got it in her early or mid-20s and it became part of her "look" then. We are all mid to late 40s. I don't see them on younger or older women. I think it's just a thing for young Gen X or older millenial women -- like a more visible version of the college tattoo a lot of us also got.

So I think it's fine but not particularly stylish or original. It's one of those "counter-culture" things a lot of us did in the late 90s or early 00s that was actually us following trends but claiming we were doing the opposite.

Money doesn’t buy class.

People with class recognize this.

Classy people carry themselves in a certain way. We know how to dress. We know how to style our hair. We know the importance of handwritten thank you notes. And we know that tats and nose rings are just as bad as wearing your jammies in public.

My teen wants the cartilage ear piercing. I'm OK with that, but I wouldn't be happy about nose piercings (I wouldn't forbid it though). I always think there's is a buildup of junk on the inside of the nose. Maybe not, but that is what I picture.

My nose ring -- a delicate 18k stud w/diamond-- is for me, not you, OP.

You sound very parochial.
