I’m sure their list of what makes someone “qualified” for a government position is different from yours.

10 Presidents did not have a college degree.

While this is true, the last of these 10 was Harry Truman, and before that William McKinley. To put it another way - since women gained the right to vote, 17 of our 18 presidents had college degrees.

Trump and Biden have are living, well almost dead but still living, proof that any fool can get a college degree.

Trump got his degree because his daddy was rich and greased palms with donations to universities. Biden had no such luxury and had to do it the hard way.

She ran a billion dollar business, which is a lot more than what most Dems can say.

+1. And I don’t want vouchers. And if there are vouchers, religious schools should be wholly ineligible.

Vouchers will destroy public education

Yes I agree. Although even without them, many middle class and upper middle class parents are fleeing even “good” public schools due to ESL and IEP’s run amok. Schools are having to handle both without enough staff and funding and the “regular” kids are getting lost. My kids are in HS now and want to finish where they are, but if I had little kids starting out, I don’t think I’d send them to our “good” public school.

I grew up with tons of ESL students in Arizona. They do not slow down class! IEPs weren’t a thing when I was in school. We just held the kids with ADHD back. People who move their kids because of ESL students don’t know anything and operate on false assumptions.

My kids attend a Title 1 DCPS high school in DC. My senior has become a wonderful writer. They are getting a great education. We shall see where my senior goes to college in the Fall. If I had younger kids, I would send them on the same educational path. We don’t supplement at home either. We also both have PhDs.

I'm going to bet that your kids are extremely bright and growing up in a stable home and would do well anywhere. You are very much mistaken if you think being in a class comprised of mostly Title 1 English language learners doesn't impact instruction and learning for an average or at risk student.

And now 60 years later they have found common ground in that they have both done a great disservice to this country.

That's my thought as well, after reading her Wikipedia bio. At least she doesn't have a history of charter/Christian school activism. Being on an education board (when she obviously had the goal of running for office) for a year is not depth of experience, and getting a teaching certificate (maybe for French and PE/coaching?) but apparently not ever teaching is meaningless. Special Olympics involvement is a positive and her campaigns for literacy and younger adults voting (back when Presidents were normal) are positives.

Dr. Oz for CMS, otoh. . . .

Biden's disservice was exactly what? I can see his decision to run again was a mistake, I don't think they did enough to campaign on the programs that did pass
My red state is set to receive funding under the Infrastructure Act, which will mean jobs (as well as maintain demand for heavy equipment). But I had to dig to find this information. A lot of this will roll out in years to come.
He should have been tougher on Israel regarding civilian harms.
The gun control act, even if it did not accomplish everything gun control advocates would like, has led to 500 people being charged with gun crimes, including international traffickers.

It's ridiculous to attribute inflation to him. It has been global because of the impact of Covid and aftermath. Of the G7 countries, only Canada and Japan had lower inflation in 2023 than the US.

My family is similar. My kids are among the only white kids in their Arizona school. My kids also speak Spanish fluently. Like they literally test as native speakers. We actually chose to live in Arizona because we like the Mexican influence here. I love that my kids are growing up speaking two languages fluently. I get it varies across the US, but I don’t get why everyone is so afraid of kids who speak Spanish being in school with kids who speak English.

That is such a tired trope. Running a business and governing are entirely different things. In a business, you get to be the Boss. Your only responsibility is to yourself and to make profit for shareholders--not clients or customers ultimately, not the people who work for you, not your vendors. In case you haven't noticed, there are not three branches of business in a corporation. And not all shareholders get the same vote.

Not everyone is afraid of it at all. You're responding to trolly anonymous posts on DCUM.

Matt Gaetz is far and away the craziest pick.

Next would have to be Pete Hegseth, followed closely by Tulsi Gabbard.

I love that RFK Jr doesn't even rank on this list

founding fathers have nothing to do w/ the dept edu

Congress passed the Department of Education Organization Act (Public Law 96-88). Created by combining offices from several federal agencies, the Department began operations in May 1980.
