Where do you buy your couches that don't suck

I love our Costco couch. It's in our basement so doesn't get full house traffic but still gets a lot of use and has held up great so far.

Ask me how I know. I saw a beautiful couch and wanted to bring my family to check it out and it was gone the next day. Same with the pretty benches they had. Lesson learned.

Also, any recs on fabric that cats won’t scratch?

You would be better off reupholstering your old couch if you like the style. Old couches have good bones.

We're happy with our crate and barrel lounge sofa. Around $2k.

Another vote for the Macy's Radley. It's still comfy and in good shape after 8 years in a house with three kids. It's kind of bland and boring looking but easy to decorate around too.

You’re going to have to invest in a good couch. We actually have a great sofa from crate and barrel in our living room that is six years old, gets daily use and is still in great shape. We also have a west elm sectional in our tv room that we’ve had for 11 years also with daily use still in good shape. So we went big box store, mid range but not custom, but good quality. Both are leather and have individual seats (vs one or two cushions) which may also help. The crate sofa is better quality than the west elm.

I bought a Wayfair couch and loveseat too for my beach rental property.
Like sitting on cinder blocks.

I also have a $1,000 Ikea couch that has held up great. I wouldn't recommend a lot of their stuff but maybe their "higher end" sofas are decent.

IKEA furniture quality has gone way down. We have been buying furniture from there for the past 25 years and had some really solid pieces that withstood the test of time but what they sell now is a travesty.

You’re definitely not getting a couch that lasts from wayfair. That is bottom of the bottom on quality.

Your price point is tough. I would look during Thanksgiving sales at arhaus, room and board and I also recommend Rowe couches a lot. They don’t have their own store fronts, but instead are one of the big brands that suburban big furniture stores carry. They are excellent quality and lower price point.

We love our Lovesac Sactional. You could catch it on sale or with the Costco bundle. It's been holding up great for a few years. It's washable and can change the configuration however is needed and add or take away sections to change size.

Some are a bit more … but if you’ve bought a couple of cheaper couches and had to throw them away, you’d probably be better off getting something just a bit more expensive that you can keep a long time.

If you’re the kind of person who will get a new couch in 5 years anyway, disregard.

NO, absolutely NOT Room & Board. We bought a couch there and it was a mess in literally three months. The "downproof ticking" is anything but. It started shedding feathers on day one and has never stopped (we've had it four years, we're getting rid of when we redo our floors next year). We have rotated and fluffed the cushions regularly (like once a week) since we bought it, but the cushions are a mess - they are lumpy, misshapen, and incredibly uncomfortable. It has never stopped shedding feathers (we're on year 4, we hate it, we're just waiting until we redo our floors to get rid of it and buy something new), the cushions are misshapen (even though we have rotated and fluffed them weekly - I'll never buy down cushions again). The performance fabric that is supposed to be stainproof literally stained when we spilled water on it, and then got worse when we tried to wash it. Their customer service is terrible, too. They wouldn't do anything about any of this even though it all started in the first year.

Agreed. My R&B couch looked 10 years old after months. Cushions all misshapen and dumpy looking almost instantly. And only a family of 3, with light use (we have an Ethan Allen couch in another room that I like better).
