Where do you buy your couches that don't suck

Bloomingdale's worked well for us. Got a floor sample that hasn't been out long because of a color discontinuation and it's held up well for 15 years.

How long do people keep couches? I’d like to get a new one to replace our 18 yr old one but it’s not in such bad shape.

Also, any recs on fabric that cats won’t scratch?

Be smart like the other poster. We but most of our furniture on Facebook marketplace. We love room and board, crate and barrel and restoration hardware but we are not paying that kind of money. Tons of people are selling their name brand furniture. Do you have to filter through the crap? Sure but it is worth it and fun. For what it is worth, we just picked up our 12k room and board sectional from Facebook marketplace for 975. All leather, no scratches.

I got an amazing Anthro bed frame for almost nothing on FB marketplace. It was like one year old; some rich family bought if for their teenage daughter who decided she "didn't like it all that much."

We like our Pottery Barn couch. Going on seven years.

I also have a $1,000 Ikea couch that has held up great. I wouldn't recommend a lot of their stuff but maybe their "higher end" sofas are decent.

Our 100” sectional from Interior Define was 2800 and we really like it. It was during done discount period but they seem to run those pretty often. You could probably get a sofa for 2k there.

I’m all for buying second hand but once I have a floor plan, matching it all up is not easy. To say nothing of arranging the hauling. How did you pick it up?

This feels like a question for JD Vance. Although I guess he's looking for couches that *do* suck.

Some are a bit more … but if you’ve bought a couple of cheaper couches and had to throw them away, you’d probably be better off getting something just a bit more expensive that you can keep a long time.

If you’re the kind of person who will get a new couch in 5 years anyway, disregard.

NO, absolutely NOT Room & Board. We bought a couch there and it was a mess in literally three months. The "downproof ticking" is anything but. It started shedding feathers on day one and has never stopped (we've had it four years, we're getting rid of when we redo our floors next year). We have rotated and fluffed the cushions regularly (like once a week) since we bought it, but the cushions are a mess - they are lumpy, misshapen, and incredibly uncomfortable. It has never stopped shedding feathers (we're on year 4, we hate it, we're just waiting until we redo our floors to get rid of it and buy something new), the cushions are misshapen (even though we have rotated and fluffed them weekly - I'll never buy down cushions again). The performance fabric that is supposed to be stainproof literally stained when we spilled water on it, and then got worse when we tried to wash it. Their customer service is terrible, too. They wouldn't do anything about any of this even though it all started in the first year.

I also have an Ikea couch I got in 2012 that has held up great!

Have held up great!

This exactly for us, too. Love it.
