How big do you need? I’ve been really happy with our couch from Room and Board. Some of the smaller sizes are in your price range. Some are a bit more … but if you’ve bought a couple of cheaper couches and had to throw them away, you’d probably be better off getting something just a bit more expensive that you can keep a long time. If you’re the kind of person who will get a new couch in 5 years anyway, disregard.
NO, absolutely NOT Room & Board. We bought a couch there and it was a mess in literally three months. The "downproof ticking" is anything but. It started shedding feathers on day one and has never stopped (we've had it four years, we're getting rid of when we redo our floors next year). We have rotated and fluffed the cushions regularly (like once a week) since we bought it, but the cushions are a mess - they are lumpy, misshapen, and incredibly uncomfortable. It has never stopped shedding feathers (we're on year 4, we hate it, we're just waiting until we redo our floors to get rid of it and buy something new), the cushions are misshapen (even though we have rotated and fluffed them weekly - I'll never buy down cushions again). The performance fabric that is supposed to be stainproof literally stained when we spilled water on it, and then got worse when we tried to wash it. Their customer service is terrible, too. They wouldn't do anything about any of this even though it all started in the first year.
Agreed. My R&B couch looked 10 years old after months. Cushions all misshapen and dumpy looking almost instantly. And only a family of 3, with light use (we have an Ethan Allen couch in another room that I like better).
