She won't because it's not in her toolkit. Teachers confronted with challenging students just need to be more empathetic.

As PP said, she's more of an image and set of cliches than a leader - a progressive white woman who smiles a lot and mouths the same catch phrases about equity and opportunity that she learned years ago get you bonus points with other progressive types. The School Board loved her because they saw themselves reflected right back at them in her.

Compare that to Garza, who was more southern and confrontational, and Brabrand, who was the wrong gender and could be condescending. Reid looks and acts like she walked off the set of Sesame Street. That's what they want, and by the time the damage is done, she'll have lined up a new gig.

She deserves it...putting up with DCUM parents. Yikes.

Absolutely a superintendent of Fairfax’s size deserves the money dealing with the parents and politics. And, our teachers and support staff deserve more money. Both can be true at the same time.

Where do we get the money for all of them? First stop is just a few miles away at the Pentagon. Ask them why they can’t pass any of their own financial audits. Once you find the billions of unaccounted for money, give it to our educators, our first responders, etc who serve our kids and local communities.

Because in the US our federal $$ definitely go to serve government functions that are defined at the state level....

"...The updated contract would give Reid an annual salary of $424,146 and a $12,000 annual car allowance..."

This is almost a 12% increase.

Are our teachers and instructional staff also getting a 12% salary increase?

Horrible. Her salary is big enough. That money should go to teachers. What is she thinking accepting this when so many teachers are underpaid and leaving the profession?

No, not horrible. She’s in charge of a $3B organization. If anything, she should be getting more. If she were in the private sector, she’d be getting triple her salary. It’s a 75-hour/week job. Who’s going to step in and take that?

+1 million.

Instead of being pissed off at her, try being angry at the system that is set up to pay teachers so little. Reid is not the enemy here.

^^This could not be more true!

I’ll add to her accomplishments- letting the grading experiment continue to happen at Madison. They don’t have to follow the rest of the policy of FCPS and it’s a mess. It was once a great school. We bought our house because of this HS. Now we have kids in private and the enrollment at Madison continues to decline.

Nails it. How can she stand to take that large a raise when all the teachers her is a teeny tiny increase. Let them eat cake!

Regarding your first paragraph:

Teaching can also be a 75 hour a week job. (I pulled one last week thanks to extra meetings and 140 essays.) Who is going to step in and take that?

We aren’t having a problem finding people to take bloated admin positions. We are having major problems finding people willing to teach.

Who really has the undesirable job? Which do you really think needs more pay?

Teachers (and not Gatehouse administrators and SB members who create more problems than they solve)!!
