Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
DP. In the private sector, leaders who destroy their organizations seldom get payouts and job security. |
“Destroy their organizations?” You really need to stop drinking so early in the morning. 😂 |
Way to deflect. Good job. Take the focus off the real issue which is that we pay public school teachers in this country $hit. |
Your scorched earth approach on this will turn me from someone who is supportive of your cause. Not everything needs to be an insane union talking point. At some point, the left idiots will start to understand that yelling at others, especially when their targets are generally in agreement with them, will backfire. Seems like you still need to learn that lesson. Btw, the topic of this thread is Reid’s pay. You are the one misdirecting. 🙄 |
It would help if you had some reading comprehension. And it would help if WTOP had a better writer. She is already making over $400K. Her first contract in 2022 was for $380K. Since then, she has received the same COL and 6% increase that all employees have received. She is NOT getting a 12% increase over her current salary. |
https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/DASS9Y71A4BD/$file/2024%20Superintendent%20Contract%20-%20Michelle%20Reid.pdf July 1, 2025, the annual salary 424,146 + cola adjustment + divisionwide annual step increaes % Termination - mutual or with very limited causes might be OK but without cause is: 1. termination is to be effective November 8, 2024 through June 30, 2027, the payment shall be equal to that full fiscal year’s base salary plus whatever has been received? That covers the division wide boundary process review + implementation timeframe. How has Reid performed on anything relative to boundaries, programs/locations, residency, even meeting locations? 2. If the termination is to be effective between July 1, 2027, and June 30, 2028, amount of base salary remaining |
How about FCPS re-allocate money to fund the hard working teachers and take it away from fluff (and fluff positions)? |
| I’m confused. Why is the board amending her contract now? Her current contract is good until 6/26. |
Her current contract would expire right around the time there could be maximum confusion and anger over boundary changes that might take effect in the fall of 2026. Unaddressed, there could be a lot of pressure for the SB then not to renew her contract. By renewing now, they insulate her from some of that blowback and give her an incentive to plow through with massive, unpopular, county-wide boundary changes. These people really do only act in their own interests. Your kids and your priorities come dead last. |
| Democrat teacher here. Fire her. Worst Superintendent I've ever worked under. Won't do anything to address mental-health, drug addiction, language needs. |
+1 She seems to be a typical white woman progressive who moves around the country pushing a progressive agenda supposedly championing the underrepresented in the name of equity—“closing the gap” in academic performance outcomes for each school district she leads. Not by raising the bar, but by limiting achievement of high performers and gatekeeping access to accelerated programs, all while amassing her own personal wealth. And good for her. Seems like a modern day traveling salesman selling quick fix potions to line pockets. “Rules for thee and not for me” in action. Maybe I’m wrong and the salary she commands is worth ever penny? But since we have an imbalance in school board representation and every last one of them are hard left leaning progressives, I’m not confident that they have the credibility to provide the checks and balances on that. |
Mutual back scratching. As one PP indicated, they pre-pay her now and she’ll stick around to complete the boundary mess and then make a quick and very lucrative exit after the damage is done. That’s just a guess though. |
Why does she need more than $380K? Are you seriously arguing that her job is more difficult than classroom teachers who make 1/4 of that? It’s a joke |
Find me people who are a big fan of how much CEOs get paid, other than CEOs. |
She won't because it's not in her toolkit. Teachers confronted with challenging students just need to be more empathetic. As PP said, she's more of an image and set of cliches than a leader - a progressive white woman who smiles a lot and mouths the same catch phrases about equity and opportunity that she learned years ago get you bonus points with other progressive types. The School Board loved her because they saw themselves reflected right back at them in her. Compare that to Garza, who was more southern and confrontational, and Brabrand, who was the wrong gender and could be condescending. Reid looks and acts like she walked off the set of Sesame Street. That's what they want, and by the time the damage is done, she'll have lined up a new gig. |
