How many schools in total?

11 total in the mix. DC applied 1 ED (strategic reach), 1 EA (low reach/high target), 2 EA (likelies), 2 RD (targets) submitted early. If ED1 does not work out, ED2 (strategic reach), 4 more RD (3 reaches, 1 target)

DD applied to 22 colleges/universities a mix of both public and private. Applying to direct admit nursing programs where admission is very competitive so need to have more lines in the water so to speak.

15 schools
6 reach, 5 target, and 4 safety.
I think it's really hard to gauge what can happen with acceptance rates going down annually at many schools. My daughter's favorite safety went from 76% acceptance last year to 64%. She falls in the range but you also see super high applicant kids applying to these schools when they never used to before bc the falling acceptance rates are trickling down. So when that happens, is she still within range? It's so unpredictable and by applying to a lot of schools, I'm hoping it will at least give her a few options, especially if she only gets into a couple targets and no reaches. Some schools we haven't even visited yet, so she doesn't even know if she'd even be happy there. She just applied bc they met the criteria she was looking for and we will visit if she gets accepted. She wants to have options academically and socially, and I want options financially. I truly envy the kids who are well within or above range at a top choice school that fits their budget; I wish that were the case for her but it's just not.

DD also planning over 20; 7 super-reaches in the mix, so wide net and fingers crossed

If you like all 8 then why do you need so many acceptances? you can only attend one.

The problem is most students apply to too many reaches and not enough targets or safeties.

Why tho? I don't see the logic. If you accept that even a top notch student has almost no chance to get into a reach school, then it makes sense to increase the chances of acceptance by applying to more. Why would that kid apply to more likelies when the reaches would always be the preferred choice?

I answered above that my kid had 1 safety (admitted), 4 likelies (3 admitted, 1 wait-list), 15 reaches (admitted at 5, waitlisted 5, rejected 5) (I think that's right). I don't know why my kid would have wanted more likelies when he was always going to pick one of the reaches if he had the chance.

As for the reach acceptances... no way to predict the ones that took him vs wait-list vs rejected.

High stat kid. Did 1 REA reach and 7 EA public with a mix of reaches/match/safety. Have 6 more working on for RD that are reach/match.
