Nobody said she had to smile. The PP just stayed a social truth—-that a smile goes a long way to making a face appear “pretty”—and since “not ugly” is OPs stated objective, reminding her of this is not counterproductive or overstepping.
OP can choose to ignore.
And so can you.
But it’s silly to pretend it isn’t true.

I have found that reading Proverbs 31 and setting my goal on becoming that woman has reframed my own definition of beauty, and I no longer look to the mirror but to the heart and to my actions to define this. It’s not easy when the world tempts us all daily to value/devalue ourselves and others based on physical attractiveness—but it does help to reframe and reset my own values and try to love that out accordingly.
