The trick or treaters have no manners

Ours were super polite! They even moderated themselves on candy, while I was offering more lol (if they don’t eat it, I will…)

I gave every kid 3 small candy bars -one each of the Hershey, Snickers, and Kit Kats I bought. Most kids were happily polite except the one kid who asked, “Don’t you have any Reese’s in there?”

Majority of kids are polite and engage in conversation about their costume, helping littler kids on steps, asking how many pieces they can take, and saying thank you.
And, a few grab are brash and barely say much.

Kinda like most adults!

Good Lord, if that happened to you, you have my sympathy.

But yes, it’s rude

huh?

Haven’t you heard “trick or treat” before? What did you think it means

i sure have, but what exactly do you think the 'trick' part mean?

I'm actually very curious now what YOU think the "trick" in "trick or treat" means, if you don't think it means "if you don't give me a treat, I'll play a trick on you (such as egg your house)". What do you think the "trick" stands for????

Me too!!!! Curious*

Right? To that poster, this is from Wikipedia (which has a lengthy post on this topic that's actually pretty interesting): "The "treat" is some form of confectionery, usually candy/sweets, although in some cultures money is given instead. The "trick" refers to a threat, usually idle, to perform mischief on the resident(s) or their property if no treat is given."

And for the OP - all of the kids that came by tonight were really polite. Some of the youngest were prompted by parents, but overall the kids were happy to get candy and non-candy treats.

Isn't trick prostitution?

We set a bowl of candy out without a sign and were gone for two hours. The bowl was only half full when we returned. Our neighborhood is amazing, I keep reading about people who came home to empty bowls or no bowls at all after even being gone just 30 minutes.

So I'd say our neighborhood kids are very polite.

+1 I sat on the porch and had maybe 150 kids come through - all ages said Happy Halloween or Trick or Treat, most asked how many pieces they could have, all said Thank You and about 20% worked in some kind of nice goodbye ("I like your pumpkins!" "Have a good night!"). I was charmed, tbh.

Do you think children are asking for candy or sex? WTF?

Kids are still mastering manners, and sometimes, especially when in an elevated excitement situation, they might forget. Why are you nitpicking about this?

Same, we had trick or treaters of all ages and I let them take from the bowl themselves and most of them only took one. I had KitKats, Reese’s and Hershey bars. We still have about 20% leftovers from what I bought and I anticipated running out before turning out my lights. Every kid said thank you and they were all so sweet and happy.

We set out a bowl with a sign to please take two, and gave the neighbor extra to refill it. Both my kids had separate activities. It bothered me more than I imagined watching teens dumping the entire bowl. Our Ring doorbell is right there. Some of the kids dumping it even spoke into the camera.

I don’t gatekeep their experience or have expectations of anything. They’re totally high on sugar and excitement. It’s nice when they try to put a costume together, or do some quick makeup. It’s ok if they don’t. I’m happy to see them out either way. And we don’t mind repeats or teenagers either.

Happy Halloween!
