What do you consider “middle of nowhere Maryland” or “middle of nowhere Virginia”, where did your mind take you?

Southside Virginia -- Halifax County's most populous city is South Boston, which has a population of about 8,000.

Warrenton? Come on. It's a small town, but it's not the middle of nowhere.

Potentially considered too close to Martinsville, Roanoke and Danville. I’m from Martinsville which has been mentioned a few times. I would not say “middle of nowhere”. Easily I could go shopping in Eden NC, within 30min, out to Greensboro in less than an hour, and back to SW VA, and have access to everything I need. Hospital, Malls, Hotels, etc..

I consider Danville the middle of nowhere. To me, middle of nowhere means does a person not from there have any reason to be there? In Virginia, it's how far are you from DC, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Shenandoah National Park, the major college towns, and 81 and 95. Danville ticks off all of them.

I am the Martinsville poster and I can shop in NC the same way people from Chevy Chase shop in Alexandria. The same goes for people in Danville. If it was truly middle of nowhere, we would have no major stores nearby, no hotels to stay in, no restaurants, etc.. Danville even has Target and Amtrak. They can get to Winston Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham, etc

Western Highlands would be middle of nowhere for Virginia: https://vawesternhighlands.com/highland-towns/

Covington
Hot Springs
Newcastle
Clifton Forge

You mean Charlottesville?

Charlottesville is definitely not middle of nowhere.

Between 81 and the homestead.

I would consider Marshall the middle of nowhere. It's definitely rural.

Drive a little west to the thriving community of Frederick or to Hagerstown whose proximity to four major thoroughfares has made it a hub for fulfillment centers and shipping.
Middle of no where could be Accident or Lonaconing but Wes Moore put Lonaconing on the map by filming an Argue Better commercial with its mayor.

There is a new viral video on social media for Red Truck Bakery in Marshall being labeled “middle of nowhere Virginia” to which some replied and dismissed due to the proximity and being in the DMV metro area.

Owner closed Red Truck Bakery years ago and his husband is retiring from his company.

This one seems too close to Richmond and Virginia Beach to truly be middle of nowhere.

Current population is 306. Have you ever been to Surry County? GTFOH with your "seems" nonsense.

I'm a different poster who has been to Surry County many times and have friends in Spring Grove. It's rural but it's not really isolated enough to be the middle of nowhere to me. The people I know go to Williamsburg, Hopewell, and Prince George often. It's also only 30 miles to Petersburg. I wouldn't want to live that far from a hospital, though.

Both are very much open. We’ve been recently.

I think the entirety of MD counts as "the middle of nowhere", same for the entirety of VA. Both very depressing places.
