Frustrated with ‘liberal’ friends who are so very insular and intolerant.

The only people I know who fit all of your friends criteria of living in the Midwest, owning guns, shopping at Walmart, eating at chain restaurants, and voting republican are old ladies who live in rural America.

I think your friends need to leave their bubble and see who actual MAGA voters are. A lot of people get there through woo-woo health stuff and wouldn’t be caught dead in a Walmart. A lot of people who shop at Walmart are poor or just live near a Walmart. A lot of immigrant families shop there. It isn’t a political statement.

It's ironic because they'll discuss how intolerant the right is and I just want to tell them to look in the mirror. I vote left and I will openly disagree with some conservative positions but I'm not as rabid and myopic as some of my liberal friends. I just let it go because there's nothing that will offend them more than comparing them to the people they hate but it's very clear to see and I am tired of it.

Same coin, opposite sides. I’m always amazed they don’t see it.

but EW! That would have meant rubbing elbows with MAGA. She is the most elitist candidate we've ever had, even worse than Obama (PBUH).

This is a stupid take. People don’t want a security circus to visit them post hurricane. That’s why Trump isn’t there either. They need/want potable water, not hugs.

I KNOW that. It's just optics. I'm saying it would have worked and she could have picked up a lot of voters.

I find it off putting and myopic, although admittedly I am probably insular in my own way too. I don’t like guns, I live on the east coast, I support liberal causes, but I also don’t think I’m inherently better than those other people either.

Said by someone likely intolerant of others for their religion, who they love, what gender they choose, and who wants autonomy over their own body.

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit, I see.

Its especially annoying when I'll point out that maybe Dems would be more successful electorally (something I want because the GOP is horrifying and also because I share many/most Democratic policy goals) if there was less scorn from many in the party toward people who are not coastal, UMC, and highly educated, I am ALSO viewed with suspicion. Or if I say "yes I share your goal of making society less dependent on fossil fuels, but I don't think we can realistically convert most car drivers in Nebraska (where I'm from) to e-bikes," then I'm probably MAGA too.

Sometimes the groupthink and cliquishness on the left is as bad as the right, even if the underlying ideas are way better. It's the better of two bad options but yes it sure is annoying sometimes.

Extremes are on both sides are killing this country.

I think you might be in a bubble yourself. Lots of people shop at Walmart. It is typically coastal elite types (like you sound) who would be so horrified to admit they go there.

And the point is these people hold on to stereotypes about others. Seems like you missed that point…

I vote dem because I’m not a g-d moron and can see that the other party wants to actively oppress women and take away our financial and medical autonomy, but wow, I wish there was some kind of third option between the slimiest and most insufferable people I’ve ever met in my life, and voting myself into second class citizenship

US Citizens are the second class here now. Look at the red carpet that has been layed out the last 3 years for illegal entry into our country. Then look how the hurricane victims were just treated. Not even trying to fake it any more.

Can anyone explain what happened with the primaries being circumvented for the Democratic ticket? Anyone that was paying any attention knew that Biden no longer had the cognitive ability to run again, for MONTHS before the primaries, even though every attempt was made to shield him from the public.

I would love to have had a legitimate Democratic Primary so we could have had the opportunity to have better candidates. This is the worst ticket I have ever seen.

This country is lost right now. Social Media and the fact no one under 50 can sit down and read through a full article and opine anymore have done critical damage. We are flooded with misinformation constantly and it comes from BOTH sides. We need long form debates again and live interviews with the candidates. Kamala can barely speak without a script and Trump won’t ever shut up.

I’m with you.
Dems need to work harder to understand and reach all corners of the party, and to think much more about economic issues and how they impact people who aren’t coastal elite. This board is a great example of being out of touch, when people are whining that they don’t have more than $1 or $2 million in their 401k.

So this.

My favorite recent post was ‘can I retire on 10m?’ And then people debating it.
I mean, really. So out of touch.

They might have friends of different races, but only ones who are UMC like them, educated at the same handful of schools, etc.

I’ve said the same thing. She had a huge opportunity to demonstrate leadership in the aftermath of Helene and bombed it. And here comes Milton and she’s doing a press tour whining about DeSantis not taking her calls. Um, he’s busy? I don’t want to vote for Trump, but good lord, give me something to vote for!

You could try focusing on actual policies instead of spinning up dumb crap this.

Except Dem's fight for economic issue that will help people who are NOT costal elites, and this new form of Republicans (not the normal Republicans) are not fighting for people who are NOT costal elites.

It seems to me you have not read the economic plans - you are the ones that are "out of touch".

This, so much this. I understand what OP is saying but it’s so hard to not think blue collar Trump voters are dumb when they don’t see this. Educated Dems tend to vote with their head and the lass educated Republicans seem to vote with their heart so it’s hard for us to understand one another.
