That. Right there, above. That seems to be the ACPS motto. |
yep. lowest common denominator. If we go down, we all go down together. Otherwise it's not equitable and racist. |
Huh, I was told replacing most of the administrators with people personally approved by the new executive principal would fix everything. |
It's absurd. |
Oh yes! I remember. Everything must be ok then! Follow up question: do any of the newly hired/appointed people belong to the same sorority as the sup?? |
To be fair, that does seem to be the M.O. of many school districts around here. However, this high school mess takes it to a whole new level. |
Student paper editorial. Pretty scathing

Wow. One key paragraph from Theogony:
What is most troubling about the transport situation is not that students are walking back and forth — as we believe that, with minor adjustments, such as the placement of crossing guards, walking may be the most realistic option to ensure student safety — but rather that ACPS seemingly took few steps to ensure transport ran smoothly. To make matters worse, Central Office and school administrators were in an apparent state of denial when confronted with the problem. |
It pretty much is: "About Us ACPS is about equity, empowerment and inspiring students to thrive Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) places racial equity at the center of everything that we do as a school division. This challenges us to ensure our students are engaged in classroom instruction and have access to the educational resources needed to enhance their learning experiences. We will ensure that our schools are a safe, friendly and welcoming environment for all. We set clear division-wide priorities and programs to address opportunity and achievement gaps as well as make sure that all students graduate ready for college, careers and life. Our vision is big and bold, and the potential is enormous." See anything regarding academic success, achievement, excellence, etc. in there? |
What would it take for state intervention in ACHS? It clearly is a drastic step but I honestly have no faith in Central Office or the School Board to do anything at all to stop the downward spiral. School Board can barely get enough candidates to run. It is a barely functioning system. |
As long as there are alternative academic options ie Pvt schools, no changes will be considered. The people with power and money aren't there to make changes happen so non will be considered. There's a reason it never gets better. |
I was at the King-Braddock-Quaker intersection this morning and so many students were darting across traffic without a walk signal. It was legitimately terrifying! Drivers were honking and having to stop on green to allow lines of kids across, then drivers unable to go because the light turned red. Just making a bad intersection even worse at the height of rush hour, creating major back ups.
I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes and was so concerned for the students’ safety! And felt very unnerved as a driver that had students darting in front of my car when I had a green signal. |
And just in time, the typical ACPS response. "there is no problem, so we're not going to fix it". And also, it's your fault.

And this is why nothing will ever improve in ACPS. Central Office would rather gaslight everyone than admit improvements are needed. We all know the transfer situation isn’t working. We all know the “closed campus” narrative is fiction; just go to that area midday. |
People should stop blaming the people they have been consistently voting in. Maybe support candidates that will change the system because ACPS has been terrible for years. C'mon. Everyone knows that family that sends their kids to slum it for K-5 and then goes to SSSAS when their kids are in their adolescent years. |
