ACPS prohibits kids walking between high school campsuses.

The crazed bicycle city of Alexandria prohibits kids from the .7 mile walk between campuses? That is so backward and crazy. The district has had 20 years to improve sidewalks.

Sidewalks are not the problem. Students don't seem to be able to observe the most basic traffic signals and just wander all over the road. A crossing guard would solve the problem and these kiddos would get some much-needed exercise.

Yeah it’s chaos when the kids are walking around. Part of it is that the street layout is a mess, but I often wonder if they shouldn’t have a class for street crossing at Minnie Howard.

No. They should have two completely separate highschools. There is no reason for this nonsense. What is all this instructional time between schools being wasted?

For those of you pushing these kids to walk between buildings for no reason do you not remember what happened less than two years ago when high school students were galavanting all around the buildings? A child was stabbed by another student and died in a nearby shopping center.

I see kids wandering around the streets near King and Quaker during school hours frequently. Also at Bradlee. Perhaps this is why OP.

I am sure the walk would be very educational. Only ACPS could screw this up.

Is this to prevent the kids from leaving the buildings and fighting at Bradlee?

It's pathetic that a city of 160,0000 has one high school.

One high school wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so crappy. It's crazy how so many people in Alexandria send their kids to private or just move when their kids start middle school.

^^^ This. It's ridiculous that they chose to build a second campus rather than a second high school. Having kids go between the campuses is so dumb. I think the reasons for the one school two campuses were complete bs as well.

Wait… you didn’t think padding the sup’s anti-racism-performance-theater résume and maintaining a deep bench to prop up mediocre teams were good reasons??!!

How are they going to stop the kids from walking through the Bermuda Triangle of Braddock/King/Seminary? They’re always walking back and forth. There are always kids hanging out underneath Safeway and in Bradlee.

If you really want to see some craziness, go through the Bermuda Triangle around 3:30 when the school bus corral runs through, as in literally one after another after another after another not stopping at stop signs or for lights. They just take over. Then you also have the kids playing frogged in the Bermuda Triangle traffic.
