Where do MoCo council members live?

They are not "exempt". Montgomery County can't change the zoning in municipalities with their own zoning authority because those municipalities have their own zoning authority. Montgomery County does not have zoning authority over properties in those municipalities.

You post to quibble over a technical vs. colloquial definition of "exempt." Way to get in a last word where the point made by the PP is completely valid, champ!

It is "valid" in the same way that saying MoCo's proposal would exempt Arlington or College Park is valid. Not sure how you can blame a county for not taking action in areas where there is no authority.

Very few live upcounty, just those who represent those districts.

In general, I think upcounty gets the short end of the stick when it comes to any council initiatives, for example transportation planning -- things are just more spread out up there, and there's no Metro station. They seem to forget that.

There only are four at-large councilmembers, and zero of them (0 out of 4, or 0%) live in Takoma Park.

I don't think anybody has forgotten where the Metro stations are. Maybe you have forgotten about the other transit options that exist, and are used by people, in the upcounty.

Next you'll complain that adults are exempt from high school homework assignments.

Will Jawando lives in TKPK - or at least the did. And there are council people in Rockville and Gaithersburg, right?

And I still don't understand the point of this line of inquiry. Are we really suggesting that elected officials should not have a vote on things that don't affect their specific home? Should we disband the state and federal Congress? Should Rockville councilmembers not get a vote on a particular development application if it is not planned for their particular neighborhood?

No, he lives in far-out Silver Spring. He's also not the only at-large council member and none of them live in Takoma Park.

Seriously, the level of “Well, Ackchyually” in their posts would be laughable if it didn’t affect the rest of us and they were focusing Star Wars or something.

You think that the structures and extra stress on the infrastructure are going to ruin your quality of life? Just wait until these libertarian YIMBY-splainers move in!

“Ackchyually, no, it’s NOT against the law for my 8 roommates to park in front of your house indefinitely.”

“Ackchyually, it’s the law that I can use up to 68.2% of human feces to garden, if you don’t like the smell go inside!”

“Ackchyually, my bike does not have to stop for stop signs.”

You think that they are selfish and self centered now? Wait until they take over your neighborhood associations.

Ashton is not Silver Spring. Far out or not.

DP. I think that many people who don't live in the east county think of all of the east county as Silver Spring.

Isn't Will Jawondo's "Silver Spring" residence like, way up in Cloverly or something? Not anywhere close to the area affected, much less the area folks tend to think of when they hear Silver Spring. That SS ends where Wheaton begins or where White Oak begins, for the most part. Large swaths of the entire east of the county end up having a "Silver Spring" designation/zip code, so it's easy to lean on that in an "I feel your pain" way without ever getting hurt, yourself.

Hey, he's an elected councilmember and all, and the council has its authority, there, but it's not like folks shouldn't question motivation and call out poor representation when they feel it is associated.

Maybe. But it's country where he lives and zoned for Sherwood. He still claims Silver Spring. But it's not.

It's kind of creepy, the way some people are obsessed with the minutiae of one councilmember's residence.

Not when they lie all the time about stuff like that.
