Is it tacky to serve wine at a baby shower?

Get something alcohol free for the pregnant one.

Why can't you go one afternoon without drinking?

I can, but not at some incredibly boring shower where I'm socializing with a bunch of people I don't know and sitting thru neverending opening of gifts.

NP. It’s a party, for adults. People are bringing you gifts and usually having to play stupid games. They deserve good food and alcohol.

Strange. My circle of white Americans and various Europeans and Asians don't drink much, and we've had plenty of non-alcoholic parties.

It's hard for me to relate to all of you who think you can't have a party without alcohol.

OP, maybe you can ask the mother-to-be, as well as a few key guests, what they think.

Are you this reductive and simplistic in all aspects of your life?

Repeat after me - it's not that we *can't* have a party without alcohol, it's that it's more enjoyable if one can have a glass or two. For one thing, it makes uptight twits who might be in attendance (ahem, PP) more tolerable.

dp It has been proven that there are no redeeming qualities of drinking alcohol. It is a drug and a depressive drug at that. Calling us 'uptight' just proves our point. If you need a couple of drinks just to function in a social setting you are too dependent on it. And calling us names doesn't change the fact that your body does not need alcohol to survive. It is poison plain and simple. And it is destroying families

I can't remember being at a baby shower that did not include alcohol.

+1 for some reason baby showers are a magnet for uptight people who judge everything and everyone. Have mercy and serve at least champagne or rosé.

No, this has not been proven, because it is incorrect. Many people enjoy themselves more with a glass or two of their favorite tipple. Thus, it has a redeeming quality. Do you honestly think that people throughout the millennia have been imbibing something which they find to have "no redeeming qualities?"

Sorry the only drinkers you know are alcoholics. Have you tried Al-Anon to help with your trauma?

In my experience, parties without wine, beer, or liquor are 1) thrown by someone who is in recovery, 2) thrown for someone in recovery, or 3) thrown by someone who is either trying to save money or straight up cheap and looking to save money by not buying liquor. Unless your party fits one of the previous 3 categories, I suggest you serve some wine or champagne.

If someone was throwing a baby shower for me, I would want some wine and champagne for them, even if I didn’t drink any myself. I also don’t drink soda or coffee and don’t think they have many “redeeming qualities” (what a stodgy way to describe food and drink!), but I would have some on hand for people who do like them.

I love wine, and had a full bar at my baby shower. We also had the football games on in the background, so not the most conventional shower. It was fun, even if I was obviously not able to partake!
