I think his 50 free was 41.23 seconds. I called Tollefson and All Star Aquatics and both didn't even ask questions but just said they're full. What about the dolphins? One of the teams I called mentioned them. I looked up dolphins and a few teams come up. Anyone have info on that team?

That club was Joe Flaherty’s Dolphins and probably would have been a great fit, but I don’t think they have a competitive age group program this year. There was a shake-up with the club and many of the coaches went to a new club called Quince Orchard Swim Academy which is in Gaithersburg. Try to reach out to Sea Devils, it’s a more low key club that I can’t imagine being full to the point that they would reject a kid with club experience.

Didn’t the team just fold?

Not a "fold", still around:

Not really. No meets and he lost almost all his coaches to QOSA.

You are using your own personal definition of "fold" that nobody else uses - "fold" implies that they don't exist at all, which isn't the case here.

Although no meets would be a deal-breaker for many, there is a whole cohort of kids/families that actually seek this out.

So, not a fold.

Folded as a USA SWIMMING club team. They now exist as a stroke clinic.

Newp.

Not sure why you'd insist on tripling-down on being wrong, but you do you, boo.

Still clearly affiliated with Potomac Valley Swimming and USA Swimming:

NP. For many, having zero meets doesn't really give the feel of a team. Especially when Joe Flaherty himself advocated for a meet a month as a "report card" to show progress and improvement.

If you look at the registration page, he doesn't even call it a "team" anymore. He lists lessons, stroke and turn, and "advanced athletes" to "prepare them" to compete for a school, club, or team. But the info on the JFD page doesn't really make it sound like they're hosting a team.

Commute distance/time is king around here.

OP dropped in here on 8/21 asking "Are we too late?"

The answer is mostly yes, yes you are too late.

They are not going to get their "perfect fit", so lets not pretend that they are and don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough(for now).

So, they can schlep up to Fairland or UMD or somewhere else "too far" where they are spending too much time in the car if they really want to have "the feel of a team". Or maybe given their unfortunate timing, they can stop-gap w/ JFD which is as close as it gets for them for now at Georgetown Prep and figure out a more optimal fit for the long-term for next year. At least the kid would be in the water.

It's not clear if the no meets at JFD is just a temp thing due to having the rug abruptly pulled out from under, and there are plans to incorporate meets back in sometime in the future, or if "no meet" is the status quo moving forward, they would need to ask if they want meets.
