Ok knock yourself out trying to prevent your child from getting ubiquitous childhood viruses. |
Can we have some nuance here, please? Some viruses are worse than others. Some viruses it makes sense to take stronger prevention steps for, some viruses it doesn't. Measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, and whooping cough also used to be ubiquitous childhood viruses, after all. |
Maryland Department of Health does not recommend that kids with parvovirus stay home, largely because it is not likely to be contagious after you're symptomatic: https://earlychildhood.marylandpublicschools.org/system/files/filedepot/3/communicablediseasesummary.pdf |
What kind of doctor? https://www.cdc.gov/parvovirus-b19/about/parvovirus-b19-in-pregnancy.html |
Okay then stay home with cold like symptoms- as a general rule- and IF you kid shows slapped cheek syndrome after the contagious period still tell pregnant people. My GOD. |
Then shes not an educated one then. Someones at the bottom of each class. |
And actually after reading your link heres what it says- BTW LITERALLY WHAT I STATED- " Fever, runny nose, headache, rash, andjoint painand swelling;rash canberedand patchyfacial rash(“slapped cheek”)thatmay spreadtorestof bodyinlace-like pattern.Cold-like symptomsmay precederash. Maybe asymptomatic." AND " Anoutbreakmustbe reportedtotheLHD. Pregnantwomen exposedtoacaseof Fifthdiseaseshould consultwiththeir HCP" Yes the rash likely means that they were contagious prior and the rash normally appears after other symptoms/possible asymptomatic. So heres the deal: 1. If your kid has the other symptoms besides a facial rash, keep them home. 2. If your kid does not have symptoms, you wont know they are contagious. 3. Once the rash appears- REGARDLESS OF PRIOR SYMPTOMS- you should report and tell pregnant women. |
A single case isn't reportable, only outbreaks. |
A lot women don't tell people when they're in the first trimester, which covers most of the period where there's much of a risk. |
What do cold symptoms have to do with this when the contagious period is prior to symptoms? It’s like you want an excuse to lecture people just because a virus exists and has a CDC memo. Also how many people are around pregnant people enough to need to go notify them? I have 3 kids and can’t remember the last time I was around a pregnant person since most my friends are done with babies. If I did have a pregnant friend/relative who had been around my sick kid I would tell them. But this isn’t some super common occurrence in my life. But I hope you’re enjoying your sense of superiority over telling us all how to handle any sniffle our kid has for the remainder of eternity. |
| Dang. Where's the Virtual Academy when we really need it? |
It's mean to mock them like that. |
| Don't worry, virtual academy will be brought back due to the amazing advocacy by MVA parents. Parvovirus, COVID, flu, mpox whatever, mva families have our backs. |
| thank you mVA parents! |
DC got hand foot mouth disease there. Ugh. It was awful.
